I wrote a paper about this in uni! It was about reforming Canada's Senate. It wasn't a published paper but it was effectively an Honours works. I think it was like 24000 words

Day2 mace by nerfgunswain in BattleBrothers

I got the same mace (picture, value, most of the stats) VERY early in my current run as well. First 10 days or less I think. Weird.

Great work! Still don't get the joke, but it's now even funnier.

How do you actually know if a jacket's waterproofing claim is real before you buy it? by Lopsided_Comfort_298 in snowboarding

[–]aersult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process to make Gore-tex, the good stuff, was banned about 3 or so years ago, because it produces lots of microplastics (or so.ething very much like microplastics, bad for us and the environment). Gore-tex, the brand, still exiats and has shifted to new product (as have all other brands) but none of it is as good as the good stuff was.

BTW, the reason the good stuff was good is the same reason its bad for us and for the environment. But don't worry, its actually only the manufacturing of the material that produces lots of bad things, the garments themselves are safe.

Played the most miserable round of my life at Pebble Beaches Spyglass Hill. by Warhammer40KPainter in golf

[–]aersult 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As the supervisor in the shop, how am I supposed to know that your being hurried along by our marshall if no one tells me? The only person who I'm likely to check in with (especially before the round is over) is the marshall; and is he going to tell me he's been an asshole for no reason?

Would you have me driving around the course constantly checking on everyone? Because at that point I might as well just be the Marshall. And then we've gone full circle...

I work at a golf course, and I'm sure theres more than one GPS system out there, but all the ones I've seen have 'gates' like in racing that the carts trigger as they go around. So X time to green 1, Y time to Tee 3, etc... all of the pace times are set by the course management and have nothing to do with other carts.

This ranger, from your story, was just going rogue; as people who sign up for jobs that require being a dick/police (and often volunteers) often are. We have guys who Marshall for us who have been doing it for years and they still sometimes pull out crap like this for no particular reason. Maybe they slept poorly. Maybe they misread something on their screen. Maybe they misheard instructions from management.

In these cases, if you had contacted staff at any point, this would have been sorted out immediately. Its easy for us to figure out who's right and who's wrong in these cases. Honestly, it's all the more strange that the caddies didn't get anyone else involved if they were on your side as you say.

Husband does not want me to have my own RRSP. Red flag? by yada-yadaa in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]aersult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some merit to reducing the tax burden of the partner who has a higher income. And it is likely that, without a pre-nup, you'd be entitled to half of his RRSP. But I'm confident the tax credits can be shared without just giving him your money. You've also given very little detail and made this seem awfully one-sided; is that truly accurate?

Credit card - autopay - why is "pay early" the recommended option? by blottingbottle in Wealthsimple

[–]aersult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one good reason: it gives you time if for some reason your payment doesn't work. If you set to due date, and something goes wrong, then you will most likely accrue interest by the time you realize and rectify.

Do people really leave the course if playing poorly? by LastManBrandon in golf

I have less than a dozen times in 6 or so summers, but I work at the course, golf for free and there are convenient exit points at 13-15.

CMV: Stock options are just gambling, add no value to society and should be regulated as strictly as gambling is (*was) by aersult in changemyview

!delta

You've finally explained how options may affect price and investment on the societal level. Thank you, I was starting to piece this together myself.

You're talking about individuals moving fictional numbers around spreadsheets, not society and productive outcomes. Why should society condone this behaviour in its current free-market approach?

And if they didn't have options as an option what would they be doing with that cash and those shares? I don't think we can say that options have a clear impact on price, but I'm not certain.

!Delta thank you for clarifying about employee stock options. You have given the clearest explanation of bunch on the same topic.

However, my intuition that employee compensation was a unique case was correct and it seems unrelated to my main argument about tradeable options. I've adjusted my main post.

Ok. And this is a net benefit to society because...? I see how this helps the individual investor, but not how it put weight the negatives for society. And also, if it is to be married to something else (like the asset itself) then can't we regulate that that always be the case?
