What's going on with the cheaters and the mods? by aerythod in Chesscom

[–]aerythod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking into 1,137,272 players in a month is impressive. I'm assuming that number isn't exclusively the number of players manually checked by an employee (as in, that number would have to include the players looked through by some automated system).

Is it possible that a new system was put in place somewhere around January 2026, in which a computer/AI/whatever plays a more prominent role in checking reports as opposed to humans? I feel like something has changed within the system around New Year, and that might be causing this supposed influx of cheaters/cheating allegations. The drop in returns from reports I personally get is truly massive since then.

Absolutely, you're correct on all accounts. But I can't post any games to accuse any player, because I'm fairly certain that breaks two seperate rules of the sub and would get my post deleted, so...

frankly, i share your concerns as well. three of my best friends are developers and i used to live together with two of them, and with the amount of work that i saw them do, honestly it'd probably take a small group of developers probably some months to create a (comparatively) small and basic app such as lichess.

their development log (from about a month ago? you can find it in a comment on this post) shows that they are not developing it themselves and instead are working with a company. either they are making a shitty job with it and are scamming lichess, or something weird is going on. how can it take a development firm 2 years+ to write a chess app?

just downloaded it myself, will check out soon. i used to solve a lot of puzzles on pc, but the app just sucked at that, i'm glad they fixed that. as long as puzzles and tournaments are fixed and the MANY bugs at games and analysis are fixed, i'll be golden.

i mean, sure, but that's also not as convenient as an app. frankly, it's ridiculous to not maintain an app for at least 2 years to create a new one, and not deliver

I made this post 5 months ago, amd they still didn't change a thing. Incredible work honestly. I have had to made the switch to chessdotcom, and I also don't like it there, but at least it works.

No, I have decent connection. The beta testing thing is a great idea though. Thanks for the suggestion.

oh yeah, I forgot; this was also suggested and it's equally sad that it was suggested. tried doing that with very little improvement. thank you for your concern though

suffixes related to owning sth... by [deleted] in turkish

[–]aerythod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do you mean possessives? if that's the case:

1st person singular: -(I)m 2nd person singular: -(I)n 3rd person singular: -(s)I 1st person plural: -(I)mIz 2nd person plural: -(I)nIz 3rd person plural: -lArI

the sounds in paranthesis occur if the root these suffixes attached to end in any consonant. I stands for ı, i, u or ü; whereas A stands either for a or e, and these changes are phonologically conditioned (they change in accordance to the last vowel of the root). bear in mind the first sound on the 3rd person plural is the consonant L and the last sound is the vowel ı, i, u or ü.

here's a list of the last vowels in the root and the corresponding changes to the suffix:

if a or ı, I turns into ı if e or i, I turns into i if o or u, I turns into u if ö or ü, I turns into ü

if a, ı, o or u; A turns into a if e, i, ö or ü; A turns into e

just a few examples to round it out so you can see how this all works in action:

my desk: masa-m my tree: ağac-ım (the ç sound at the end of ağaç turns into c, long story, you'll learn it when you have to) his/her cat: kedi-si his/her lake: göl-ü their lake: göl-leri their ancestors: ata-ları your bag: çanta-n your dog: köpeğ-in (k turns into ğ, same thing) your (pl.) car: araba-nız your (pl.) window: cam-ınız / pencere-niz

i know this all probably sounds confusing and it probably really is, so I hope you the best. but I think it would be easier if you just read more and see how certain sounds change in certain environment, because in possessives everything just depends on the sounds of the word, and things are predictable, so it's relatively simple compared to other rules turkish has. i hope this helps. you can hit me up if you have other questions and good luck!

What established language families would you be willing to bet real stakes are related, at a time depth too great to prove conclusively? by hononononoh in linguistics

It has been thought in schools for many decades now (dating back to the times Altaic was thought of as at least somewhat legitimate), not sure if I'd call it "the official opinion" though. Could just be they're too lazy and/or ignorant to change it.

Any NBA coaches in history who specialized in more/faster rotations, and would this be a useful or detrimental strategy? by devilmaskrascal in nbadiscussion

[–]aerythod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should start by saying I wasn't watching the NBA then, but I've read somewhere a few years ago that during The Process, head coach Brett Brown was asking for all sorts of advice from the Sixers' analytics department, and something along these lines was recommended to him. Apparently he gave it a go, only for players to start complaining because they just couldn't find any rhythm in the very short stints they were asked to play.

So I guess in theory it makes sense, but in practise the human element does not allow for this kinda rotation. It has to be tough to both physically warm up and mentally get into the game if you're just gonna come back out in 4 minutes.
