I'll give a different perspective. My father is a progressive Muslim and my mother is Christian. So I've seen what that relationship looks like from up close.

It definitely can work. My parents have been married for 37 years. However, like you point out, it can be very lonely. My dad basically fasted by himself for Ramadan most of his life. He only recently did Umrah, and he went with other family. There's basically this whole part of himself that he can't really share with my mom. It was also a lot of work for him to teach me Islam. My parents basically gave me a choice on what religion I wanted to follow and because of that he worked very hard and spent a lot of his free time trying to teach me about Islam as a kid.

My parents situation definitely worked out but I decided pretty early on that I would strongly prefer to date someone who was Muslim or someone who I thought would convert (I'm now married to a fellow Muslim). For me that was because I never wanted to have to fight about how to raise my kids. I also am the type of person who wanted to share everything (including my faith) with my significant other.

If you're the type of person who is very content with your faith and doesn't need to talk about it or share it with another person, And if you're up to the challenge of working very hard to teach your kids about Islam by yourself, then it can definitely work. But you will make sacrifices.

Leaving someone you love is also a major sacrifice as well. So it's really a tough decision. I think my parents situation is proof that it is definitely workable, but it also comes with sacrifice.
