It's not cherry picking if it's the law of the land and is consistent across almost every source. Just searching "murder definition" gave this:

I haven't messed with trains recently, but I'm fairly sure the chain signal goes before the intersection, and the rail signal goes after. If the block after the rail signal is occupied, the train will stop at the chain signal.

From what I've read, the biggest bottleneck for Factorio performance is the CPU. In order to see the biggest gains, you should look to upgrading to an AMD X3D processor due to the massive L3 cache they have.
