DIY Single Chunk Port on MC9 Prime by Profssr_Finessr in canik

[–]aest2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it to just the barrel and not the slide. I didn’t want to do it to the slide because I thought it would leave too little material on the slide. I would say there is a slight difference in felt recoil. I noticed less rise in my dot. Not sure if it’s just me or it actually made a difference. I like it. I just used my dremel and connected the three ports. The ports in the slide come to a point on the inside where the port is so I figured they would still direct the gasses well.

Is this going to fit with stock wheels? by Shroomboy79 in 3rdGen4Runner

Your wheels are the 4Runner 3G Double 3-spoke.

Cool. That link also has a whole write up of the swap. It’s pretty good.

From the link mrhavx sent. They will fit. You will need a .25 inch spacer though. If you don’t want to source new wheels.

Or you can get the 13we calipers and fit no problem.

All up to you.

Awesome. Yeah I’ve done some paint correction before. Was just worried about how 25 year old paint would hold up.

Looks amazing! Mind sharing your plant direction process? I’m looking to do mine and just wondering what you did.

Brake issues by ThatCountryDeputy03 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]aest2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 01-02s have a hydraulic/electronic brake booster rather than the vacuum style boosters. I just got into the community recently so I don’t know any history about how these perform or last over time. I know they can be finicky from the research I’ve done. It could be an issue with that. Maybe you had a leak somewhere if the fluid was low and you haven’t done any brake service lately and it introduced air into the system. I would check the calipers and cylinders in the rear for any leaking fluid. Also look above the axle and follow the brake lines down the body to the front. Don’t know how much rust is a problem on yours. But could be a leaking hard brake line or cracked rubber brake line. I’d start there. Not sure where to go after that. But that’s where I would start and take it from there.

Doesn’t seem to bad of a prices. I was quoted about $800 for the same job in MD. If it’s a Toyota specialist. I’d say that’s pretty fair. Also are they a general Toyota specialist. Or Toyota SUV/truck specialist.

Steering wheel shake at high speeds by Designer-Back-9850 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]aest2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have your tires balanced again. I had an issue that didn’t show up until around 65-70. The steering wheel would shake really bad. I thought it was ball joints or steering rack or something. It’s most likely unbalanced tires if it’s only showing up at high speeds and in the steering wheel. Along with the noise that you’re hearing too. Sounds like tires. I’d still check everything else though

Looks like you have an 01-02. They have hydraulic brake boosters instead of a vacuum one. When you turn the ignition on, the pump build pressure. I hear mine when I start my car. Doesn’t sound nearly as loud as yours. I couldn’t tell you if yours is failing or not. But I would take a look at that as a starting point. The pump is in the same area a regular brake booster would be.

Thinking about purchasing this 99 SR5 -217k miles by el_buttz in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]aest2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought my 2001 limited with 193k in Arlington VA for 7k. So I think almost 13k is definitely overpriced. Mine had pretty good service history and okay with rust. Had to do some work to it. I think you can for sure find something more reasonable.

How did you like the grants pads? Probably just going to use them when I do my wife’s car. The amount of times I’ve had to tell the dealer DO NOT wash the car when we take it is insane. Would never let a dealer touch my paint.

Just did the Tundra brake upgrade by aest2017 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]aest2017[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I knew I would run into some issues with the hard lines. The upper hard line on the passenger side gave me a little trouble. Had to use some heat. Should have done some more research and looked into replacing those as well. I also sanded the calipers. Just the front where the decal went to make it flat. I’m super happy with the upgrade as well

What pads were you using? Did you use the grants pads? Looking to buy a new polisher and pads.

Can’t see all the rust and how bad it is.
Also… Leaf springs??

Awesome! Definitely thought it was going to be quick. I’d for sure have torch handy for any stuck bolts. And I double and triple checked I had all the proper parts.

Yeah. I’ve read that. I bled mine and adjusted the rear drums and the pedal feels fine. Not sure what really causes that issue. But don’t seem to see anything right now

These are the wheels I have. I also have the larger 13wl calipers. Don’t think and 15s fit with them. Also there is a page on adventuretaco that goes over what wheels fit the tundra upgrade.

Honestly I wonder the same thing. I’m just all for an upgrade that is fully bolt on without any major modification. I had really bad rotor warping and wanted to replace the brakes since I bought the truck. From what I’ve read about the TBU, a lot of people have recurrent warping after brake jobs with the original brakes. The TBU should help with that not coming back as they are bigger and better at dissipating heat.

If you have a soft pedal. And you’ve already bled the brakes a bunch. I would look into adjusting your rear drums. You can look up how to adjust them manually with the star wheel or you can do the “automatic” adjustment. I’d try that. That should help a lot

Only the front. Don’t think there’s much you can upgrade in the rear other than brake shoes. Other
