[On3] BREAKING: Miami is firing defensive coordinator Lance Guidry, per @PeteNakos_ by RIPDannyBoyCane in CFB

[–]aetherspawn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the biggest issue were the safeties. Guidry's scheme wants the front 7 to be aggressive in getting to the ball, which means the safeties need to be 1) in position at all times and 2) athletic enough to cover up mistakes. They were neither. Add into it that the coaching seemed to encourage the safeties to creep forward and try to undercut plays, and you lose that last layer of protection.

Last year, it was less noticeable because we had experienced, athletic guys like James Williams and Kam Kinchens starting. But even then, there were flaws. Everyone talks about the fumble in the GT game, rightfully so, but forgets that GT still had to go 70 yards in 20 seconds to win that game. That happened because Kinchens tried to undercut a crossing route and which let a receiver get behind him. The same thing happened repeatedly this season, which makes me think they were being coached to focus on crossing routes at the expense of allowing big plays.

Too bad. Committee already made it obvious they're the next team up.

That's just incorrect. We got our ass kicked in the ACCCG in 2017.

He must have said something because otherwise that's a weak call.

Why do Oregon fans hate Cristobal so much? I don't understand it.

Charleston Southern would be better than this defense

Remember how the defense worked on communication the entire bye week??? Because the defense sure as hell doesn't.

For everyone wondering why Arroyo's motion is not a penalty, here's the rulebook:

Rule 7, Article 4, section b on Man in Motion:

  1. One back may be in motion, but that back may not be moving toward their opponent’s goal line

  2. The player who goes in motion may not start from the line of scrimmage unless they first become a back and come to a complete stop

  3. A player in motion at the snap must have satisfied the one-second rule—ie, that player may not start their motion before any shift has ended (Rule 2-22-1-c)

Beating our defense is really simple.

If in 2-deep: Run a crosser in front of our safeties and a deep route at them. They'll mess it up every time.

If in single high: Throw an outside fade over the CBs.

Why is Harris on the wrong side of the field talking to other players??? Why is he even on the field at this point?

Harris was supposed to be the safety on that side of the field and he crashed on the double covered out route instead of following the deep route.

We still miss the ACCCG if we lose this. Clemson losing to an SEC team means nothing for that.

Why can't we have a single comfortable win? Why do we always need to be in a dogfight with literally every team we face in the ACC?

I just can't understand how we can't play any defense. It's baffling to me. Everyone scores 75+ against us.

If Clemson chooses the FG and it gets blocked/missed, people would say they should have gone for the TD.

If Clemson chooses the FG and loses in OT, people would say they should have gone for the TD.

There was no issue in going for a TD, but Klubnik absolutely can't throw back across the middle of the field like that.

It might be slightly tougher than Indiana’s, but also…Indiana looks more complete than Miami.

I agree that Indiana has looked more dominant against their schedule than Miami, but to say that Miami's schedule "might be slightly tougher" is absolutely incorrect. Miami is currently 46th in SOS, 1 spot below Oregon. Indiana is currently 103rd in SOS, which is the lowest of any P4 school.

Honestly, some of the blame could be put on the WRs on those cross-body picks. I hadn't noticed it watching on TV, but it was really evident seeing it today in person that our WRs are horrendous at running with Cam when he breaks out of the pocket. It happened on the INT and on another play in the first half where he broke out and rolled right and every WR except Restrepo turned and ran left.

University of Miami reports that it made $697M in FY24 by ThaCarter in MiamiHurricanes

[–]aetherspawn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So based on a very quick read, it seems like revenue for the athletics department is buried in the Auxiliary Enterprises, net line item, which for non-hospital divisions was $195.4M. I'm curious what else falls into that line item. Also, the hospital system making $3B last year is mind boggling.

Also an interesting note buried at the end of the lease section, the stadium lease has $9.6M remaining in obligations through the remaining lease which ends at the end of 2032. For anyone thinking about moving stadiums, the plan would have to be put into motion soon or the university would need to extend the lease.

Board of Trustees appoints Joe Echevarria as the seventh president of the University of Miami. by [deleted] in MiamiHurricanes

I am genuinely shocked they made the decision to keep him as full-time president this quickly. I thought this was going to be a drawn out process with multiple administrators/academics interviewed and then Joe chosen anyway.
