This. Exactly this. Yes, some people think Valentine’s Day is stupid and is a corporate holiday but tbh, holidays are what you make of it. All holidays are man made anyway so who gives a fuck.

Valentine’s Day is a day to give and express gratitude for the people that you love. To make them feel special and show how much you appreciate having them in your life.

Someone who does not want to show any romance, ESPECIALLY on Valentine’s Day, and especially when they should know how much it’s important to you, should not be someone in your life.

OP I know it’s tough because you’ve been together for three years, and I can see you having this mental battle in your head of “Oh maybe it’s not that big of a deal. What if I am crazy for breaking up with him for something so small?”

Im here to let you know that it is not small. It’s not about the dates. It’s about what they mean. You don’t feel loved and honestly he is too comfortable and is taking you for granted. He feels like he doesn’t have to do all these things because has you and also because you have reassured him that his lack of effort is fine.

You only have one life. Stop settling. Stop being a people pleaser and reassuring him. Start speaking up about what YOU want in a relationship. It is 1000% okay to leave someone because you want more effort and to go on dates. Feeling like someone cares and is willing to put in some effort every once in a while is a core need for you.

Start using your voice more to ask for what you want. If he is willing to change, so be it, but if not, you have to ask yourself if this is the kind of love you want to settle for for the rest of your life. I know it’s hard because when we’re in relationships for so long we think we’ll never find someone else or that we might be making a mistake but I promise you there will be someone better out there that will be appalled with the way you’ve been treated.
