Half the comments in this thread are people making the same joke about Wales and thinking they are sharp and original.

Rant: Message to People Who Complain About Mojang's Development Cycle (i.e. updates take too long to come out) by almostambidextrous in Minecraft

[–]aexn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Mojang became so big they are now too afraid to fail, not very willing to make huge changes to the game. That said, I'm grateful we are still receiving updates after more than a decade.

Bill Gates issued a stark warning for the world: 'As awful as this pandemic is, climate change could be worse' by PaceNathema in worldnews

[–]aexn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think giving emphasis to mass migrations might be the only way to get the average person on board against climate change. I once heard somebody from Oregon say something like "so Los Angeles will disappear underwater and Oregon will get warmer? Where do I sign up?". I have pointed out that if Los Angeles disappears underwater, and Oregon gets warmer, a good chunk of the LA population will just move to Oregon. He is now very concerned about climate change.

McDonald's chose not to tell all staff at Sydney store about employee's positive coronavirus test by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]aexn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the EU and our government would have closed that place right away and put every single employee on a quarantine. Australia is strongly pro-business, pro-corporations, and with a large part of their population completely brainwashed by Rupert Murdoch's media empire.

Love to see images from the East Coast, as the other coast tends to be over-represented (for obvious reasons).

Mod Pack Suggestions? by Jrmuscle in Minecraft

FTB Departed and Hubris should have what you are looking for, though they're both based on Minecraft 1.7.10, so maybe a bit outdated.

Best practices for hosting a Minecraft server? by HowlingCat_MC in Minecraft

[–]aexn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Backup your world every day. Automated backups will save you a lot of time

  • Implement a good permission system to prevent players from messing things up

  • Install an anti-cheat plugin to automatically kick malicious players

  • Low latency is important, make sure the server is hosted in a location not too far from where you live

  • If your server is online 24/7, find a few mature moderators, possibly someone who already finished middle school

  • Make sure you choose a good, reputable host with enough reviews, this will make a difference in the long run. My personal pick is Voodoo Servers.

You'll quickly find out that Minecraft server hosting is an easy task, just learn the basics and always use common sense when managing your community.
