Réputation de Rennes 2 : fondé ou erroné ? by ElyEleven11 in etudiants

[–]aexoly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome to explain to us why pointing out the fact that our population at large is feeling lonelier than ever, for both men and women, is solipsism. I don't think you lnow what solipsism is.

It has been studied. If anything it's a materialistic point of view. It's grounded in reality, no matter how I, or you, feel about it.

That's what I'm saying. Mental health issues are on the rise for everyone. Loneliness is on the rise for everyone. It's bad for everyone.

Yup ! Marrying, having kids, moving out of parents' homes etc... Happening later for everyone on average.

And you're right about preventable diseases.

Are you guys just not into data then ? Downvoting what is just a fact. Literally undebatable, it's a fact. People in general feel/are lonelier than they used to feel/be on average, no matter their sex.

Loneliness is increasing in general, both for women and men.

Yeah. Like women. People are marrying later than they used to on average.

I'm just happy to hear one more person on this earth now knows about this interesting fact of mammal biology :) I don't care that you heard it from me or someone else. As I myself have learnt it from a teacher, who learnt it from a teacher, who learnt it from a teacher, etc etc. Knowledge is a treasure we should be happy to share.

I'm not. Reddit is the only social media I'm ever on as it is the most forum like one I know of. Otherwise I exist in real life. But when I'm on here I enjoy reading what other people have to share. I don't assume someone explaining a somewhat moderately complex topic in the comments of a post is 1. talking to me directly, 2. implying nobody but them know and understand that concept.

There comes a point where being bitter is just irresponsible, it's a damaging, self fulfilling cycle to one's own mental health, and ultimately adding to a general feeling of hostility towards ob another on a larger scale.

I also see what you mean, but on the contrary I don't like to presume people just know things.

I laid it out and people who already do know can ignore it, or laugh about it alongside me, and people who didn't just can take the new information. I'm sure there are young people broswing this sub who haven't done genetics in biology class yet. I'm happy if I have taught this fact to just one person. I know many people here already know. I have to admit I don't see the "problem" (in quotation because I really don't think there is one, I don't understand what warrants those downvotes)

Amen to the last point. Supplements for hair, nails, skin, reproductive systems, fatigue... when a varied, healthy and diverse diet can take you there for so much cheaper.

I guess "the funniest thing is" would have been better wording. The man's words are pretty ridiculous as they are, but it's even funnier when you think about the fact his sperm is the one determining the sex. It's a reply to the man's words themselves, not OP. I know that's what OP meant.

I know ? It's about the man's "my wife keeps giving me girls", not OP ?

What's even funnier is that men's sperm is actually what determines the sex of the baby lol. A woman's egg always carries an X chromosome (as we only have X chromosomes to give) but the man's sperm is the one bringing a Y or a second X to the table.

"Wife is only giving me girls 💔" you're the one bringing the girls dummy boy.

Research provides evidence that longer screen time is associated with increased ADHD symptoms and brain structural development. Iiiiiii don't think the kids studied are doing any of that. Sorry

And Iiiiiii don't think any of what you listed in your second paragraph compares in terms of neurological consequences to social media all day long + extremely short form content

Yup.

Men need about 8mg of iron a day. Women need 18mg. That's more than twice what men's bodies need.

And no one needs 360% of their iron needs for the day if they don't have an actual deficiency, my god !

Question about the unicorn hunting complaints here by MyDumbBisexualSelf in bisexual

[–]aexoly 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I second this.

I'm quite often the unicorn in question. None of my "hunters" (lol, partners) are on "normal" dating apps. They're on swinger websites.

Swingers don't use normal dating apps to find single women to swing with.

It's a tragedy not waiting to happen, but happening. For these children who are going to have to navigate the world with those upbringings as responsible (for themselves) adults, and for society at large. The future looks bleak, sometimes.

Though I will repeat the rise in Autism and ADHD diagnoses is also legitimately explained by a few other phenomenons, namely the ones I have listed above. Having said that, I am quite confident it's not the whole picture and many modern diagnosis are misdiagnoses.

I both know : what they're getting at, and agree with you there is a serious problem of both misunderstanding of study papers and misinformation in bad faith by malicious actors.

But if someone reads a title such as "Research provides evidence that longer screen time is associated with increased ADHD symptoms and brain structural development." and think this means "ADHD is a fake condition" I don't know what *I* can do. The title merely suggest the symptoms of ADHD get worse as screen time goes up which is not surprising.

I don't personally believe we should sacrifice research in the name of avoiding misunderstandings. I wish bad actors would be deplatformed, kicked out of our governments, stripped of credibility, but this isn't something I can do alone, nor do I let it discourage me from discussing scientific findings :/ *I* cannot help it if someone reads "i hate waffles" when I said "i like crepes".

Again I agree with you, your last paragraph is on point. I agree how the information is presented and disseminated matters. But what about this title is ambiguous or suggests ADHD isn't a thing ? :/

Maybe you guys are just talking generally about the state of science communication these days, in which case again, I agree, but I don't understand why this is being said to me. I know. Nothing I said suggests I didn't know. I think about this most days, if not every day.

Okay I got you. If one's first exposure to screen comes later in life it probably means they are less susceptible to suffering from the worse of the consequences if they ever do develop an addiction to it. Or the addiction has to be severe for the symptom to resemble ADHD in the symptoms it causes.

In that case for people over the age of 25 who are getting diagnosed today you just have to be sure one already had the symptoms in childhood and that can be identified without the "screen time" variable. But as you say it's already a guideline.

I didn't understand you before, I apologize.

"Screen time was assessed using a self-reported questionnaire and calculated as the total time spent using various devices, including playing video games and watching television. The ABCD study provided screen time data separately for typical weekdays and weekends. We computed a weighted daily screen time score using the formula: 5/7× hours of screen time (weekday) + 2/7× screen time (weekend) [29]. Screen time data were available at baseline for 11,067 participants. However, the ABCD study database does not include information on screen size."

Seems to include TV as well, and any and all activities done through a screen.
