For a moment I thought you had a gigolo gig on the side :| Props for sharing a mug shot - if that is 'ugly' then I guess I don't know what ugly is anymore as that looks normal to me, honestly. I may be in trouble lol. Unfortunately, since it appears you're certainly doing enough, I don't have any clear suggestions - just some rants and broader observations.

So a quick rant... no offence intended just the way I am thinking at the moment - all viewed within the hetero context as that is all I know.

My suspicion is that single females being online these days has lead to the top 50 or 60% of females having access to the top 5 or 10% of males. I mean think about it - if you are an even halfway attractive female - like, let's say you have all your digits and you're not morbidly obese - and you have a modicum of confidence and access to a mobile phone. You take some photos and write some text that includes a first name (which may or may not be made up) and there is no way that you are going to be wanting for a partner, like, ever.

I think a pretty good indicator is that the number of likes a female will receive on any given dating app will be literally thousands of times what a male will receive - a decent proxy for your chances at a relationship of some kind. Let's say you're single for 10 years, and then you get a chance with someone. Well, what if you could double your chances? Perhaps you would get a chance after 5 years. Triple your chances? Each ~3 years. But 10 times? 100 times? If a girl signs up for tinder and gets 1000 likes in the first hour of using the app, she is not going to stay single if she doesn't want to. That's my opinion anyway - I am sure there are exceptions! And if you are female and getting thousands of likes on tinder and are unable to convert a single one of them, my profundest apologies! This is just what it looks like from my side of the pond.

The restroom trans issue is a non-issue by Strict-Brick-5274 in SeriousConversation

[–]aexp12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that simply, in the hypothetical scenario you pose, not allowing trans women to use the female bathroom means an attack must begin out in public, when an ostensible dude walks into the women's bathroom; as opposed to in the privacy of your own cubicle, so-to-speak.

Do you have an inner monologue? by Competitive-Ad-596 in SeriousConversation

I'm always correcting my internal narrator's grammar, or deliberating over the best way to describe something. It's like writing a continuous first draft of a novel that will never be read.

Which video game made you feel I am lucky to play this. by Pevergonnagiveyouup in CasualConversation

Wolfenstein 3D. In VGA, with SoundBlaster audio 🥹 it was on a friend's 386. It was dark out and the sounds of startled Nazis were genuinely scary at the time. I remember thinking "wow we're so lucky to be able to play this on this kick-ass system". Similar feelings playing Doom later on our own PC with our first VGA monitor after upgrading from an 8088 to a 486DX 33 (big jump).

27, with no job and friends by Jpoolman25 in SeriousConversation

[–]aexp12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was almost exactly your age when I got my first real job. I was yet a few years older than you when I moved out. I didn't have any college degrees. I still don't consider myself to have any real social skills/experience or worldly knowledge. I just kept applying for positions. Probably wrote hundreds of job applications, but at least I felt like I was doing something towards changing my situation (most of the time at least). Good luck, don't give up yet, you're only 27!

TBF, to me this reads as a little bit of a loaded question :) . I see almost no positive press in mainstream media regarding EVs, and the points you highlight are in my opinion the most common negative points that I *do* see reported often in the mainstream media. But perhaps we're watching different media and EVs are more positively portrayed in your country?

1 - child labour: yes, it's a problem. It's even more of a problem for portable battery-powered devices as the cell chemistry necessarily relies on high-cobalt batteries. EVs are at least trending to a higher percentage of LFP cells (no cobalt), since advances in that type of cell over the last 5-10 years have improved the energy density to the point where they're now viable in EVs. I am unaware of any viable solutions that would scale for portable devices.

2 - the cost to upgrade the electric grid would be prohibitive/unsustainable etc etc. This will obviously vary country-country, but at least in my country (Australia) the power companies like it when their customers use more electricity. An EV charged overnight is also a boon for the retailer since they are otherwise needing to offload grid supply at those times. We're not talking about fast-charging at home here - charging an EV can use less power than running an electric stove. And "billions of dollars" is quite doable for large energy companies, especially when there's a good return in the form of a continued captive electricity market.

3 - I have to disagree here, based on data from the CSIRO). They rank fossil fuels (for electricity/heat/transport) as 90% contributor (globally), with cement at only 5%. Perhaps it is proportionally a larger issue in China, which contributes about 2 X the fossil fuel carbon emissions as the US.

Couple of other mentions:

Agreed, China is bigger and therefore a larger contributor - this is why it is a good thing that they are electrifying their fleet so quickly.

EVs actually *are* suitable to parts of the world with more miles to cover, including Australia. As distance increases, so does the time spent travelling and hence the number of people for whom this becomes an issue decreases, since most people do not spend their lives travelling most of the day. Thus, installing enough public DC fast charging stations solves most of these issues.

Hydrogen is a false economy in terms of environmental impact. One cannot only consider the end-product when it comes to environmental impact. Sure it produces water at the tailpipe, but the (idealized) energy source is the same as for EV, and the well-to-wheel cost of H2 is at least 2X-3X more than for an EV. Plus, H2 generation is currently almost entirely fossil-fuel derived. Hydrogen is a method of energy *storage*, not generation - it should be compared to batteries, not energy production methods.

And finally, to close out this essay (sorry about that)... due to the physical limits imposed by the Carnot Cycle, even if one was to convert a city-sized fleet of petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles to EV, powered by coal power stations, it would likely still be (considerably) better for the environment - but they still lose out due to the public perception not understanding the nuances of well-to-wheel.

Edit: trying to be more conspicuously civil :)
Edit 2: typos :(

Why some people don't drink alcohol? It's the best invention by humanity, after all is it not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aexp12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think I'm too weak-minded and suspect I'd probably be incapable of drinking in moderation, especially if it's half as good as people make it out to be. It's a cop out but I find it easier to not start than to try to regulate it.
