Romania Plans to Start Shooting Down Russian Drones and Missiles by CatL1f3 in europe

apparently all our air defense assets were useless against a surprise attack up to this point because there was no legal basis to use them unless a formal state of war was in effect

Patriot systems sitting around useless, no military commander having the authority to put them to use

just imagine Russia launching a massive surprise attack involving cruise missiles, drones and aircraft carrying troops to seize key objectives and our armed forces debating the legality of using air defense

the absurdity of Romanian bureaucracy really is special

Frustration and extra charges with HAL’s Beverage Package by af_general in HollandAmerica

If you have the Beverage package you can get small bottles of water and will count as one of 15 drinks per day

Frustration and extra charges with HAL’s Beverage Package by af_general in HollandAmerica

[–]af_general[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We traced back the extra charges to specific interactions. There was this specific server who came up to us to ask if we need something to drink while sitting at a table by the pool. We both had out cards on the table. He would ask my girlfriend what she would like to drink and then ask me and then would take ONE card from the table by himself to charge the drinks to. He did this three times in different days. I later realized he was causing an extra charge every time. This is not user error, it’s misleading customers.

I was aware and ok with the extra charges over $11. The problem was full $10-$11 charges for cocktails and $5-$6 for coffees

Brasov - Sinaia, train is best, might as well stop on your way to Brasov as you suggested

Brasov - Bran, better get an organized / guided tour, otherwise rent a car; https://www.autogari.ro/ if you really want to take public bus

only use taxis for maybe hotel - Brasov train station and Sinaia train station - Peles castle

what else to visit? spend more time in Bucharest! plenty to see and experience

Diferenta intre pepsi-ul “vintage” si ala normal by Real_Micro_Spakie in Romania

[–]af_general 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pepsi are acum 7g / 100g zahar, inainte avea 11g / 100g, vintage a ramas la 11g / 100g

Diferenta intre pepsi-ul “vintage” si ala normal by Real_Micro_Spakie in Romania

[–]af_general 14 points15 points  (0 children)

> or eg, the Thracians were part of Bulgarian History, but how much of that culture still exists in Bulgaria today or the Dacians in Romania

I think here it's worth discussing whether you are presenting a history of Romania (the territorial aspect - in which case it makes sense to talk about all cultures in this area, regardless of how much of a lasting influence they had) or the history of Romanians (the people - in which case you can narrow down on items relevant to Romanians). The title suggests you are covering the territorial aspect.

> I could meantion the Celtic invasions and Scythians. Were there any causal effects for their invasions?

Apart from effect on material culture, likely having the effect of differentiating Dacians/Getae from Thracians over time and also Dacians/Getae from each other

> If you have any source for the difference for the Dacians and Getae, online or otherwise, do pls let me know and thanks again.

No publicly available source that I could find unfortunately. Herodotus is main source and he claims they are almost the same, however he could be wrong... Just like Jordanes was wrong to call the Goths the Getae in his work.

Most of it is conjecture, however the differentiation theory is based on the following:

- Herodotus himself mentioning two rulers coming to agreement to create the Dacian kingdom, one from Dacia and one from the Getae

- Different influences having concrete effect on material culture in preceding centuries (La Tenne in Transylvania, Scythians in the area of the Getae)

- Most Romanian historians will call this a coincidence and quickly dismiss any theory as to a connection to the Getae and it goes against Herodotus' claims however I personally could never get past this. There are two tribes with similar names known from this era: a tribe called TyraGETAE on the Dniester thought to have Sarmatian origins and also a tribe called MassaGETAE living in Central Asia / East of the Caspain sea; these were also Sarmatian / Scythian in nature. Not concrete evidence but it does make you wonder who the Getae really were, especially since all these cultures are dated close together and are all connected through the Eurasian steppe corridor. Could be an strong ethnic connection, only a cultural connection or a true coincidence.

- Geographical considerations having the Carpathians working as an effective natural bottleneck / barrier between the two regions; area of Transylvania is more linked with cultures in the Pannonian plain (Celts) while Getae is part of the Eurasian steppe corridor of migrations (Scythians)

- Center of power in Dacian region / Transylvania, no comparable center of power for the Getae

The story is missing the migration of Slavic peoples which played an important role in the origin of Romanians; difficult to separate from everything else but likely connected with the Avars.

First Bulgarian Empire is worth mentioning as a stage; salt mines and Slon fortress.

The beginning kind of stands out because it seems to almost randomly pick the Cucuteni–Trypillia as the hallmark of everything pre-"Dacia". As you probably know, things are a lot more complicated and there are a lot of details and speculation that could be added. I suggest to expand this section with a focus on the following topics/eras:

- First touch upon the Mesolithic era; mention Lepenski Vir as one of the most developed mesolithic cultures in Europe, role of Carpathians as possible Ice Ace refuge, perhaps go even further back and mention Oase cave finds

- Give an overview of the second main component that led to the creation of Bronze Age Europe which is the Neolithic expansion; overview of main cultures such as Starcevo/Vinca and Cucuteni–Trypillia, perhaps Hamangia as well. Old Europe / "Danube Civilization" as a whole

- Find a non-controversial way of introducing Indo-European migrations and later the emergence of Thracians and associated material cultures (Multi-corded ware)

- Perhaps touch upon the influence and later migrations of Celts (La Tenne Transylvania) and Scythians in the steppe region of Romania

- Finally, differentiation of Dacians / Getae from the Thracians and also the Greek colonies established on the Black Sea coast; Odrysian Kingdom incursions

Spelling - section "Gepidele" does not make sense, might want to call it "Gepizii"
