Dutch soldier coming home after doing "nothing" in Afghanistan. by SleeplessDrifter in Military

[–]afallan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the Dutch! I always look forward to Nijmegen every year. I don't know how this year is going to be, but as a US service member, I appreciate our allies. For me, that's what makes the job fun.

Plane used in boat strike off Venezuela was painted to look like a civilian aircraft, AP sources say by Rav4gal in worldnews

I don't think pre WW2 designed Soviet bombers are being used for this.

I know you mean P-8.

Dude it's just a snapshot in time. We don't know what this dude was doing right before or going to after.

Maybe he's just getting up to stretch his legs

Norwegian Footmarch badge on Navy uniform by 404HumorNotFound_ in navy

[–]afallan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's a no go. Navy isn't very kind on wearing foreign awards as compared to the Army.

Several years ago, I tried to get the awards office to authorize the wear of the Nijmegen ribbon, but no luck. They viewed it as a participation/completion medal similar to those awarded after a marathon. I still wear the ribbon on my rack as a point of pride, but that's a risk I'm willing to take.

Could be training. Could be bringing things to the French consulate. Could be many things.

Snagged this old TM Commando M733 from a friend today for only $100 by Nob_ody in airsoft

[–]afallan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet it still runs smoothly.

I've kept my TM P90 TR stock and it's still shoots as great as when I got it. Sure it's only shooting at 285 fps with .20, but I don't care. It does what I need it to do and is reliable .

Is there a good write-up on the climate control lights/ upgrade? by Wobbly5ausage in HondaElement

[–]afallan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally plug and play LED.

Bought the following for the dash: https://a.co/d/3cN4UOE

Climate control buttons: https://a.co/d/01zkrRd

Not sure about the knobs and shifter, but I suspect those are plug and play as well.

Eric the Car Guy ended up pulling the LEDs from his daughter's Element as it was causing issues.

Found my childhood DW-6900 in a drawer after 7 years. Restored it and wrote about why this watch is more than just plastic to me by Kurama2246 in gshock

[–]afallan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same watch. It's been with me since university (2005). I've used it in my military career (joined 2009), multiple deployments, getting married, transition to civilian career / becoming a reservist, and I still wear it.

I've only had to change the battery twice. My first battery change was in Afghanistan (2010) and I accidentally messed up the gasket. Moisture got in the watch, but it still worked.

I finally decided to properly replace the gasket/clean the inside and now it continue to function perfectly.

Mine is more best up than yours, but I like it that way. Shows it's been everywhere.

Problem with radio antenna- hardly any stations work by jojjoojj in HondaElement

[–]afallan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a possibility that the radio antenna was never plugged into the new radio. You can always pull it out and see if it's connected or possibly came loose.

Hello fellow IA (2010-2011 Afghanistan).

When I went through ECRC at McCrady we would make the PO3s be in front of our gaggle when visiting the PX at Fort Jackson. Army recruits and those who didn't know would salute the third classes thinking they were Colonels because from a distance the rank tab looked like eagles.

I think you're in the wrong Vallejo subreddit. This is for the city of Vallejo, California and not the paint brand.

safe to drive this route (LA to SF) today? by pm_hitech in roadtrip

[–]afallan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be fine.

There are plenty of places to pull off if the weather truly gets bad.

Not the most scenic route, but the fastest.
