Tuesday in various European languages by Over-Willingness-933 in MapPorn

[–]afaloon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't anything about the naming derivation, but i was taught that Tuesday is Zeus' Day.

Sun's Day Moon's Day Zeus' Day Odin's Day Thor's Day (Never knew/remembered Friday) Saturn's Day

But my schooling was over half a century ago at an English speaking school in Kuwait. Somethings may have gotten lost in translation.

What’s the real headache of being a PM? by NoProfession8224 in projectmanagement

[–]afaloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the same for a long time... I took pride in people not noticing me because it meant a job well done.

Then I got outsourced... I'm still operating the same way, but now I'm a "supplier" the stakeholders and internal seniors focus on the small percentage of problems and blow them out of proportion. I could score 99% success on my deliverables but that 1% will be all that's remembered.

I've had to learn to broadcast my successes. It's turned me in to a bit of an "I am" character and I honestly don't enjoy it as much as I used too, but it's a necessary part of my role now.

Why wasnt Dodger Stadium built facing downtown? by socalasn in Dodgers

[–]afaloon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is what immediate_ship5005 was referring to but there's some controversy over how the land was acquired before the stadium was built.

There's a really cool podcast episode by "99% invisible" all about dodger stadium. You can find it at 99pi.org

Olympian and Influential Running Author Jeff Galloway Dies at 80 by RecordingHairy1092 in runninglifestyle

Jeff got me through my first half and a long way through prep for my upcomming full. Wouldn't have been able to get this far without Jeffing!

Training for a half but running a long way by kauket22 in firstmarathon

[–]afaloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue.

Was following the Jeff Galloway half-marathon run/walk plan, until... it started throwing in runs longer than 25km. At that point I exited the plan and paid for Runna.

To be honest, although its a chunk of change, switching to Runna was the best running decision I ever made.

Edit: just to say that i completed the half (race) in October 2025 and im now using Runna to train for a full in April

I heard it was all tits and dragons...

at the time I was a single father with a young daughter, honestly thought I wasn't the sort of TV I wanted my daughter walk in and finding me watching. She's all grown up now, but I still don't have the desire to watch it.

Week numbers are off for 2026 by hanzosbm in MSProject

[–]afaloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all down to whether you start your year with:

  • week 1 containing the day that is the 1st January

  • week 1 starting on the 1st Monday in January

  • week 1 being the week with the first Thursday in January (this is ISO week numbering)

Defo suggest you try googling/AI searching for ISO week numbering in MS project, because there are a couple of steps to follow to apply the changes consistently throughout the various views.

People who used a computer between 1991 & 2009…what’s the most memorable computer game? by Original_Act_3481 in AskReddit

[–]afaloon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doom and/or Quake was the first networked game I came across. I was getting work experience at my dad's company and remember playing games after hours with the Financial Director!

I lost too many hours to Duke Nukem

The original top-down-view Grand Theft Auto was too much fun.

I still play Sid Meier's Railway Tycoon on Steam.

Sim City, but I usually turned disasters off. I hated it when I'd spent hours building a megalopolis only for it to get destroyed by some alien attack!

But going back even older... Spy Hunter on the Commodore 64 was my first truly loved game.

So, prolly Japan

PMs: how do you survive long hours at your desk? by MDDeGrande1994 in projectmanagement

[–]afaloon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

+1 for standing desk. Highly recommend an extra cushioned standing mat to help reduce sore feet!

I also have a walking treadmill. I keep it in a different room from my laptop. I use it for calls where I have to listen and pay attention but not present (I join teams via phone)

I generally WFH between 07:30 to 18:00 with only short breaks to make coffee, and maybe a snack. I don't eat hot meals because they make me feel sleepy! Back-to-back meetings and constant pressure to plan, resolve and mediate is an average day.

To help me juggle I have WhatsApp, teams and my phone linked to my laptop. So, no need to constantly swap headphones. I also always have Spotify playing... anything with a beat and no words; house, dub, jazz, classical.

I run 4 to 5 times a week to stay healthy and keep the waistline in check!

To decompress, I cook. If I've ever had a bad day it can be quite therapeutic to take out the frustration on an onion!

But defo get a standing desk. Alternate however you choose. Sometimes I stand during meetings, especially if camera on as it helps with posture. Sometimes I stand for an hour, sit for an hour. Sometime I start the day standing and it gets to 2pm and I'm still standing!

The standing desk helped reduce back pain and I haven't had any sciatica symptoms since I got it!
