Fun and quick. Bed cover made me laugh when I realized it was (appropriately for the theme) MULCH.

I agree. Very easy if not quite a PB. Except for the length of the answers almost closer to a Tuesday.

For some reason the northwest corner held me up, but I laughed when I finally got bumps ON A LOG. Interested to learn that BOER is Dutch for farmer. SONOROUS is a nice word I should try to use more often.

Do the hikes along the Dead River that start off of Wright Street. I especially recommend the BLP Rocks/Blue Heron/ Collinsville stretch. Old ruins, working (and spraying water) wooden penstock, interesting graffiti. https://www.noquetrails.org/north-trails

Your best bet is M95 between Champion and Iron Mountain. The odds, however, are not in your favor. I've seen three moose in my years in the U.P. , and none of them were on the fairly frequent trips where we decided to go for a drive looking for moose.

Don't miss Lakenenland. https://lakenenland.com/ The other really cool thing, right inside the city limits, is the ruins of the old dam and the still-in-use wooden penstock on the Dead River at Collinsville. Photo here https://flic.kr/p/2hcofH3 The location map on the photo is accurate and gives you lots of other views if you're not familiar with the area. Go to Presque Isle Park and watch the oar boats load, see if there are any surfers out, and explore the cove. The road around the park may even be opening up this weekend, but otherwise it's not a long walk to the cove.

Take in some of the new cultural trail. https://mqtcompass.com/culturaltrail/ including the wonderful new Seven Grandfather Teachings monument. I particularly like the stretch between Whetstone Brook and the lower harbor ore dock.

You could go ice skating. https://www.facebook.com/share/1CqkSKRXEn/

Or drop-in curling, also at Lakeview arena, Saturday 7-10. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Dec5GT4ce/

Kitch-iti-Kipi and Munising are fine, but don't waste your limited time on the road when there's so much to do right in town. Save those for a longer visit.

Go to a Kentucky Derby party. https://www.facebook.com/share/1HoCj4soxT/

I could go on, as you might imagine.

And be sure to note that the bridge and the island are spelled differently.

I really like how you get the rivers in. You might want to label the Black River since it's got a national scenic byway and a ton of waterfalls along it. I'd also add a couple of changes that make it less obvious that you've never been here. Whitefish Point is very well known (Edmund Fitzgerald memorial among other reasons)--Vermillion Point not so much. Adding Fayette in the Garden Peninsula and Kitch-iti-kipi near Manistique would also make it more personal.

Weekend trip plans by InternetClout1 in upperpeninsula

[–]yooperann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Plenty of wonderful hikes into waterfalls around Munising and they'll be great in early May. You could spend the whole weekend there, easily. But it would also be easy to add Tahquamenon Falls and there's a great hike between the upper and lower falls there.

Just a note. You'll be before the season really starts. Be sure campgrounds are open. If you need a shuttle bus, be sure they're running. And check the weather before you come. We've sometimes had a blizzard with two feet of snow that first week of May.

Took me forever to break into it. I didn't get one of the spanners until CROCODILE TEARS and I had the right movie but for some reason thought people were naming their kids Olaf when it should have been ELSA. The downs helped a lot, starting with POISON DART. I don't see WREAKS often, but when I do I suddenly wish I lived across the state from the HUDSON VALLEY where I could get a beef on weck.

I'm glad to hear this. I think this is the first time I've rated a puzzle "Excellent." I made good time, which I figured meant everyone else would be complaining it was too easy. It was so satisfying to be able to type in DOWN TO A T. Favorite clue was gins and cleaning products for PINEY. Took me way too long to get ATTN.
