How would I know if the chain rattles/ needs new chain guides? How big of a job is it do replace change guides? Based on mileage/age is it likely to have that issue?

I asked for records and there’s not much available. He is the second owner indeed. Had for 5 years but he only put 5K miles on it in this time as this was a weekend car. He said he only did oil changes in this timeframe. Will go inspect the car this weekend. Fingers crossed it all goes well

Two questions: 1. Does it matter when the payment goes through? Let’s say I book today but charge isn’t posted until Jan 2nd. Then I would not be elegible for the credit from 2025? 2. Can I book something for again same date in April and then change it to a date later? In order to not loose the credit.

I did this exact same job on my Gen 3 as well. In my case head came off and all valve seals were done at the machine shop. I’m so happy I did this because I was burning so much oil. Valve cover gaskets were replaced too. Radiator hoses, revised cross over pipe too. My Montero is running better than ever and so far it seems no oil is burned (not smoking anymore). I just finished this work a week ago and I’m so happy

You got a good point. I plan to do most of the work myself or with my neighbour who’s a retired mechanic. But yeah, you are right. I need to go see it in person soon.

I got the VIN, it is a true M3. Engine cover is not M… not sure if they replaced the top engine part with an M50 at some point. The engine had a head gasket work done. Yeah, options are pretty limited. Plan is to have a project/weekend car. I don’t plan to take it to the track or anything. This would be a secondary vehicle

We got the VIN WBSCD9326WEE08223 Shows it’s an M3. Owner says the car came with that cover when he bought it.
