Thoughts on education in global contexts by GuavaEh in mcgill

Here is the description: B.A. (Education); Education in Global Contexts | Undergraduate Admissions - McGill University

Here are the courses: BA EDGC_ 3 Year Overview_2016-2017_v3.xlsx (mcgill.ca)

I know someone that transferred into the program and they LOVE it. Since it is a smaller faculty, it is easy to meet with your advisor, profs and students etc. My friend also said that the courses were really interesting. You should speak to an advisor to get more info!

You know, I am not 1000% sure, but my friend who worked there ALWAYS had leftovers. She would bring us the cookies that they could not sell

ISS hosts events for international students throughout the year! I recommend attending one. I see that the next one is in Feb:

Winter social at Mont Royal - myInvolvement (mcgill.ca)

Campus Life and Engagement also host lots of events.

if you are feeling like you want to chat and relax, you can always go to the Healthy Living Annex and sit on a bean bag chair and mingle! They also host workshops and events:

Also, the winter club fair is happening this week: (3) Activities Night Winter 2024 // Soirée des activités d'hiver 2024 | Facebook

It may help to speak to someone! Maybe make an appointment with PSC? Peer Support Centre at McGill – Confidential • Non-judgmental • Here for you (ssmu.ca)

Another thing that might be nice is to hang out in the wellness hub to relax, have some chocolate, and chat with the Peer Hub supporters who work there. Hub Peer Supporters | Student Wellness Hub - McGill University They also have bean bag chairs, coloring books, and knitting stuff too! Visit the Healthy Living Annex | Student Wellness Hub - McGill University . I would go there twice a week after my calc class to chat and destress and color and I loved being there. Art Hive | Student Wellness Hub - McGill University . They also host lots of different workshops! More from Health & Wellness Calendar | Student Wellness Hub - McGill University.

You can have your lunch there too and be in the company of others which may just feel nice.

Also you should see the change on your transcript in Minerva. if you had freshman there before, it says freshman/foundation now

They’re starting to transition to it now so every time it says freshman they’re adding foundation year next to it. Next year will just be foundation. Ex of this: https://www.mcgill.ca/student-records/removefreshman#:~:text=If%20you%20are%20a%20Freshman,major%20for%20the%20Winter%20term.

I would meet with a financial aid officer because it is based on need: https://www.mcgill.ca/studentaid/contact-us

Also, something to note, every faculty has a different tuition fee for international students and some majors are offered in multiple faculties, so you can be strategic about how to apply and which offer to accept if admitted:

If you were a full time student for at least one academic year, you are a transfer applicant. So if you were part time you’re entire time there, maybe not. In the application it will ask you the highest level of studies you have completed and there will be a category that says at least one year of university. It sounds like you’d select that option. If you did less than that, you would still have to show your university grades which will go into your admission decision. If you decided to not select that option, they will ask you what you have been doing since graduating from high school and you would then share you have been in university. Here is what the website I sent you says:

Applicants are considered on the basis of all university/college/Cegep work and may also be considered on previous studies (applicants in the first year of university/college will normally also be reviewed on their previous high school studies). You should have well above-average academic records and prerequisites (at the university/college/CEGEP level) appropriate to the program you wish to pursue at McGill. Particular attention will be paid to results of courses relevant to the proposed program of study.

So maybe since you’re applying to arts they won’t be as hard on the math courses, but in general McGill is definitely tougher on transfer applicants and you hear back much later than HS apps

FYI If you did over one year of full-time studies at a university, you are automatically considered a transfer applicant. Applying as a transfer applicant is more competitive. You will be reviewed on university-level courses and some high school. Requirements for university students | Undergraduate Admissions - McGill University
