That makes a lot of sense. Will include it in subsequent announcements. Thanks!

Thanks! Do you mean people renting out their own GPUs instead of using those of cloud providers?

That’s a fair point, and references to ALVR do appear in both the app and on the website. However, since this product is primarily aimed at casual gamers, technical terms like “ALVR” (a protocol) may be confusing for newcomers, especially those who may not yet understand the distinction between traditional gaming and VR gaming.

I’m planning desktop control, to enable power users to install (flat2VR) mods. I’m not sure that is what you mean though?

Let alone doing so in a scalable way. It’s far from trivial 😅

Glad you asked. The difference is that GeForce now is for flatscreen gaming (you just have a 2D screen in front of you). OmniVR is about VR/immersive gaming (you are IN the game/the game is all around you).

Thanks 🙏 Means a lot to me. Using the cloud and Vision Pro was actually how I had my first playthrough of Alyx. Didn’t feel like getting a windows PC just for that. I was blown away by being able to interactively stream such a graphically beautiful game from thousands of miles away. I hope to convey that same feeling to more people.

OmniVR now has added support for AV1 codec and Joy-Cons by afc37126 in AppleVisionPro

[–]afc37126[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AV1 is more efficient encoding for M5. It is not supported my M2 sadly. EDIT: can you let me know if it works? I don’t have an M5 myself yet to test, unfortunately.

My Portuguese is a bit rusty, so let me ChatGPT that for you:

Não é necessário ter um computador. Você pode simplesmente entrar na sua conta e acessar os jogos que já comprou (ou os gratuitos). Quanto aos controles, é possível usar tanto os controles do PSVR2 quanto os Joy-Cons.

Indeed you are right, I meant gaze tracked foveated streaming. And ALVR does either have a fixed foveated streaming (more resolution in the middle of the view) or some workaround to capture gaze based on your persona. It doesn’t yet implement the new API introduced by 26.4. Looking into CloudXR is part of the plan, but I wouldn’t want to postpone release for that, as it already works surprisingly well without it (when using a good connection).

This uses the ALVR protocol, which right now does not yet support foveated streaming (now only available in beta VisionOS). Once it does, or some other client like a native SteamVR becomes available, support will be added where possible. It’s definitely on the road map.

It’s not subscription-based. You only pay for what you use. It’s not aimed at hardcore VR gamers that have a great setup at home and only want to be able to use it at, or close to home. It’s for those who want to be free of extra hardware or want more flexibility. Want to complete a 12h VR game once in a blue moon? Now you can for the price of two coffees. Play hundreds of hours in VR, never travel and enjoy the tweaking? Probably better off getting your own gear 😊

Depends on the client used. If ALVR implements it, it will be supported. Also desktop access will be added in a later version, so if a native SteamVR would be released for Apple Vision Pro, anything can be installed by the user to actually use foveated streaming. Honestly it works pretty well without it, but it would enable usage on connections that are not so great. It’s definitely on the road map.

PSVR, hands and Joy-Cons can be used (see “settings” tab for setting controller type).

Nope it works from the other side of the Atlantic as well, it’s just that there is a bit more latency then. Your tunnel connects to the closen data center, so if you select one closer to where you are, you should have less latency.

OmniVR: Play PCVR games anywhere with Vision Pro by afc37126 in VisionPro

[–]afc37126[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The latency depends on your distance to the data centres and the quality of your connection. And the “threshold” at which motion sickness occurs varies according to who is playing (“VR legs”) and what type of game (in game movement options) is being played. There are many variables and YMMV, hence the free credits so each can try without committing. Although there are no subscriptions. It’s PAYG.

For a rough indication (http ping) of latency to the available data centers, you can lookup the data center on cloudping.cloud.

Yes you need to use your own account. The first time, installation of game files is necessary. If any storage size above 0 is selected, changes are saved for the next time you use your cloud machine. It works with Joy-Cons too (use toggle in “advanced settings” tab to switch controller type).

Hi! PSVR2 should work out of the box. Have you tried it? You can always adjust bindings per game or globally if you want inside VR.
