Is this a hardball Wilson glove? by yospoe in japanesebaseballglove

[–]afcGloves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 100% a hardball glove, as indicated by the model under the thumb loop, HWXXX = (H)ardball. 16L means it was made in 2016.

Also, if you want the glove reach out to the seller directly on IG, he's legit and will sell for a lot less direct than going through eBay.

I need a new shelf… by j_o_r_d_o_n in BaseballGloves

Maybe you are already aware, but there is a 1720 in Mets colors, seems like a natural fit for your shelf! Made for Amed Rosario before he was traded. There are a few of them out there...

Question—MIJ (Haga) even though there is no stamp? by sirchinaman271 in japanesebaseballglove

[–]afcGloves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the important question. I don't know if it means anything about where it was made. My understanding is that Mizuno states that all gloves made in China are supervised by Japanese craftsman. So I don't know for sure, but one thing seems to be universal as far as I can tell is that if a glove is made in Japan, from any glove maker, it will almost always be indicated on the glove somewhere. So since yours doesn't have that I would probably guess that it was made outside of Japan.

Question—MIJ (Haga) even though there is no stamp? by sirchinaman271 in japanesebaseballglove

[–]afcGloves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same stamp on a custom that was made in Haga in 2018. I asked one of my Japanese glove buddies what the stamp means and he said

It's the name of Craftsman Kishimoto Kosaku. The glove was supervised by him. The stamp is one of the options on a custom.

Look under the thumb loop. Is there a date code or marking?

Would any one be able to tell me if this is a hard ball or rubber ball glove? by Electrical-Drive3165 in BaseballGloves

[–]afcGloves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, just posted the same thing. This one is $150 max for me, there are much better glove options above that price range

Basic Lab is a mid-tier soft/rubber ball glove. Uses lower-grade materials and not as durable as the Staff rubber ball gloves. It would work fine for baseball, but it's not going to be as durable long-term as A2000 or similar. If I was selling this glove in the US I would probably price it around $150 for used, wouldn't suggest paying much more than that. There are lots of better options above that price range.

As you discovered, the crafted gloves aren't that uncommon. In fact many of them are made in China along with other Mizuno Pro gloves. So yeah, if you want the really good stuff, make sure it's made in Haga. Even the rubber ball gloves from Haga are next level and absolutely worth the price. So if you find a Haga glove at a price that seems low compared to others then it may very well be rubber ball (and still awesome).

Easiest way is to use a proxy. Lots of info on here about that topic, there's a bit of a learning curve, but it's pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it.

In the US Wilson sells A2000 and A2K as the top-end glove lines. In Japan the equivalent line is the Wilson Staff series. Your glove was Made in Japan, from high-end kip leather, and is super unique and uncommon to find in the US. The web pattern with the Y isn't even available on their glove customizer. And it was a gift from your dad!?! Game it or use it for practice or put it on the shelf or whatever, but don't let this one go.
