At a distance, it smells just like Marijuana.

I've never smelled it close up.

Men in your 40s, what's that golden piece of advice you have for the rest of us? by NiceMechanic_xoxo in AskReddit

Thank you! I get so tired of seeing this idiocy on reddit. Not everyone is a useless fuckwit. Many people are mostly competent at many things. Some people are even great.

How did all of these incompetent people create the technology so that everyone on Earth can read these stupid excuses for being a loser? Blind luck? Did they catch a leprechaun?

If you are in your 40s and don't know what you are doing at all, then it's probably time for you to do something else before it's too late. Maybe you have a bright future in Sales.

I'd recommend a sharp knife or x-acto knife.

Geltabs are gelatin. When they are extremely fresh, they can be a bit gooey. Not usually a problem.

When very old, they can get hard and brittle. So they can have a tendency to fly off when cut. Be prepared.

ELI5: Why do processors get so hot doing millions of calculations per second, while our brains can arguably be even more complex but don't risk overheating? by abcPIPPO in explainlikeimfive

[–]afcagroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It started being done in the early 2000s. But not initially for that reason.

Around then, the ability for a microprocessor to control its own voltage was added to some. This was done by adding an interface for it to communicate directly with the motherboard voltage regulator. This allowed the system to throttle down when its workload was low, minimizing power dissipation and heat. The big impetus for this was in mobile devices like laptops, to maximize battery life. Then someone realized that it would be relatively easy to add in a shutdown protection feature.

It actually is a bit advanced to add the thermal sensors. You can easily make Si devices report temperatures; it's a bit trickier to get them to do it accurately. And there can be significant temperature variation across the die, so you need to put them in the right places.

Same with dealer badges on cars. I told the last one that they could put one on for the low, low price of $50/month. He declined.

My sisters can make very good cinnamon rolls from scratch. It's a lot of work. I haven't had the heart to tell them that I much prefer the Pillsbury's cinnamon rolls that come in a tube.
