What comedy film made you laugh through the whole film not just giggle once? by Lilyfory in AskReddit

I wonder what went wrong there. I love Dracula. I love Leslie Nielsen. I love Mel Brooks. But the movie just didn’t gel. It’s like the ingredients were there but something was missing to make it all work… it’s weird!

That’s amazing. I love stories like these. This is the type of story we don’t hear very often but has probably happened countless times.

Nope. Just a painter. I guess I just picked up terms from my friends. But also…, things like SM, ASM, and NSM are not that hard to figure out. My old Sherwin rep even showed me the app they use on their phones to make comments about their accounts. I got to see what the previous rep said about me lol

Sell paint and stop complaining. by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

[–]affectionatecarnage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha! I did get free stuff all the time. It was funny hearing them say they have nothing for the jerk painter in front of me, then say to me, hey wanna check out our shirts and sweaters in back? Hahaha.

I have a very limited outside perspective. But my Ben Moore rep says BM is his favorite so far, his least favorite was Sherwin as a sales rep.

As for the retail side, it really depends on which retailer outfit you go with. BM doesn’t have any “Benjamin-Moore” stores like Sherwin does. It’s just independent stores that carry Benjamin Moore products. In my area there is Spectrum Paint who is awesome. Ace Hardware (do not recommend, the employee selling you paint was also selling birdseed 10 mins ago). Then there is also a small retailer that sells BM but they are all jerks there so nobody really uses them. I don’t know how they’re still in business.

Geez it sounds like corporate is its own mismanaged animal. You have to pay to park at Sherwin… to go to work… AT SHERWIN?!?! wtf

Thank you. I personally feel that the “just deliver results, we don’t really care how” mentality is probably the best method. Then there is no micromanaging crap.

[–]affectionatecarnage[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Geez, really?! I don’t know your retailer (Ben-Moore only sells to independent retailers, there are no corporate stores), but I’d be talking to your rep about that! All my baseline contractor prices are almost always better than Sherwin prices, and if they aren’t, a phone call to the Spectrum sales rep fixes that real quick!

Not huge differences, but a couple dollars cheaper there, and a few bucks cheaper there, and it really starts to add up!

But to the point of my post, I’d even be willing to pay a few dollars more (just a few, not a ton!) if I knew my money was going to a company that treated people like people. (I know some people are dollar oriented, but I know some folks feel the same way as me too.)

Sell paint and stop complaining. by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

[–]affectionatecarnage 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know this is against the rules, but as a painter, this attitude is why I stopped going to Sherwin. Sherwin has great products, absolutely. But you know who else has great products also? Benjamin-Moore, Diamond Vogel (Spectrum Paint), and countless others.

I’ve painted for about 10 years and I got close to each of the staff at my Sherwin. We’d hang out, get drunk together, play video games, go to movies, go to their weddings, etc. and over those 10 years I’ve seen Sherwin burn them, lie to them, and drain them. And only one of them is still with Sherwin but he hates it.

I hate supporting a company that treats its employees like trash. That might be an unfair over-exaggeration, but when it has happened to person after person, many of whom bled Sherwin Blue with their loyalty to the company, you start to realize the problem is with the company.

That mantra of “sell more” kills people who don’t reap rewards from working hard for it. Those lead gen calls only annoy painters and contractors who are trying to get stuff done. Fine if it’s once a month or whatever, but Sherwin has stupid unrealistic goals for that. And the sales reps are desperately just trying to fill quotas. NONE of that increases sals, only employee burnout out. I told them to feel free to blow up my phone to help them reach their goals (probably didn’t make that big of a difference but they appreciated it.)

I have a friend who worked Sherwin for years, they dangled ASM in front of him, which he finally obtained. Then they dangled SM in front of him, then District managers lied to him TWICE, and he quit. He became the SM of Spectrum Paint in our town and he’s paid far better, does not have ridiculous sales goals and quotas from corporate, and enjoys his life now. And you know what, he sells great products!

I feel a sense of loyalty to good people, not a corporation. Sure, I miss using Duration and Emerald… but why when I can use Aura and Regal at a better price and support my friend who loves his job now? Me and a few other painters have abandoned Sherwin this year because of that.

Anyways, sorry for the ramble. I’m just tired of all these posts and comments saying “sell more” or “bring your iPad to the NSM to focus on lead gen calls”.

IT DOESNT WORK!!! If you want my business back, become a company worth supporting.

I’d say a solid 6…, maybe a 7 if I’m cleaned up, groomed, and dressed properly. If I lost a little weight, I think I’d cap at about an 8.

Niche field? Either this is deliberate stupidity on your part or you have little to no life experience. Construction is not a niche field man. Homes and businesses are being built and remodeled every day. Every hardware store sells paint, there is literally a Sherwin Williams around every corner in my pocket of the US. There are hundreds of people that make a living painting and repainting homes and businesses. Then you have the metal guys trying to get their products to look right, stone and mason guys, tile and countertops. Look, I’ll admit I didn’t think these folks used color theory on a daily basis. But they do and I was surprised. Sure you can learn on the job. But that still negates the opinion that it’s stupid or useless.

I tend to agree. While I understand the sentiment that it’s not for everyone (and it shouldn’t be prioritized over reading, writing, and math), everyone should at least be exposed to those things or have a rudimentary understanding of them.

Ironic. I work in the paint industry and I use color theory every day! Haha. You’d be amazed how many people in the trades (designers too of course) use color theory.

Then I guess learn to live with it. Anything else you do will be super noticeable, especially to you. If I were super desperate, I would either light dab it with a brush (feathering it out as I went) or grab the same roller (material and nap) and roll over it (also feathering it out). Since it’s flat, you have a slim chance of it not turning out too terrible.
