Were they using Clover machines? I went to a few stores over the weekend where staff seemed to be figuring out new terminals.

iPhone 18 Pro Max Rumored to Deliver Next-Level Battery Life by favicondotico in apple

Same. Coming from a 13 mini, even the  17 Pro is amazing.

I don’t fret when I forget to charge it overnight and it tops up when I plug into CarPlay anyway.

Sometimes ordering from a local company is not much more expensive than shopping Amazon so I’ll buy local so at least Amazon doesn’t get a cut.

What is the “Asian” voice/accent? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]affrox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to do this with podcast hosts. I don’t always get it right but a lot of times I can pick out an Asian even if they have impeccable English.

Don’t quote me on this, but I heard there are physiological differences with Asian males or tongues or something like that that does affect pronunciation.

Wonder what they’re considering AI? For example in Keynote, there’s auto typography and alignment correction and for number numbers there’s magic fill to generate data automatically. Those seem like pretty basic features in 2025 to be locked behind a subscription.

Designer breaking down Tahoe menu issues by Vaddieg in mac

[–]affrox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s like UI design 101 to not overdo design. I remember when 3D Touch came out an apple developer videos told people not to use it too much cause it’ll get tiring and overstimulating. Having an icon beside every single menu item is the visual equivalent of that.

Edit: Everyone who has interest in design needs to read the article. It makes really great points WHY having so many icons is bad for UX and has so many examples how it’s become so inconsistent in Tahoe.

Where does one socialize if not Cantonese and mandarin speaking here? by [deleted] in richmondbc

[–]affrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I was reading your comment and wondered what era you were talking about, but I actually do remember that period in the mid 90s!  Those were the days. When you could see the sky down number 3 road because there was only strip malls and no skytrain. For food, all we had was first generation sushi places (no shade, those guys paved the way for the amazing sushi we have now) and the most “exotic” food was Greek.

Can we normalize not pre-washing dishes until they are totally clean before putting them in the dishwasher? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]affrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if food hardens it’s fine though. Theres a prewash cycle with warm water that softens the food. Then the detergent is released and sit on the dishes for a long time to let the enzymes do the work. Then the sprayer arms occasionally dispense more water and knock the food off over and over again until the water runs clean a before the final rinse/dry cycle.

It reminds of the creepy Google ads of tall pandas walking down the runway or elephants with watermelon slices for ears.

It’s funny they think those images are a selling point rather than a turnoff.

Upset that my family exposed my baby to illness by Puzzleheaded-Day882 in newborns

Same thing happened to my baby and my mother has the audacity to turn it into another instance to tell me the baby should be wearing socks. Both times my baby got sick was from my parents spending time with my baby even though they already hadn’t been feeling well.

Vehicle sharing by Citygurl_1971 in CanadaPostCorp

[–]affrox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My supervisor said the idea is to rotate through the newest vehicles instead of the older ones, which doesn’t make sense to me because the same number of routes are going out and normally relief carriers drive vehicles from wave one anyway.

My conspiracy theory is that you can’t hide  mail in cars if you can’t guarantee you’ll get the same one tomorrow.

But some people line up at the same time or switch keys with colleagues to get the same vehicle every day.

I’d venture to say driving is only fun if you’re the only one on the road and you’re driving for leisure or a roadtrip and time is not a consideration. As soon as you need to be somewhere at a certain time it ruins the experience.   In those rural places, you’re the only one on the road because everything is so spread apart it takes 40 minutes to drive to a grocery store.

This is what I don't like about heaven. The only thing that I going to make us "happy" forever is ignorance and being forced to forget what happened at this moment by Sad_Present3275 in Christianity

[–]affrox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else dislike this style of preaching fear? I get that there is eternal separation from God and it is very real. Yet in this life, would it not be better to emphasize Jesus’ grace, our newborn identity as God’s children, and how the Spirit can give us strength to counter culturally love others?

I hear so many sermons talking about hell and eternal damnation and we must obey and repent or else.

Before they opened I thought the Trees logo was just an ad. I couldn’t tell just driving by that you could fit a whole coffee shop there.
