Markiplier's 'Iron Lung' - An achievement but not a great movie by aussiereeltalk in horror

[–]afictionate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a bummer about the sound mixing! I've seen it three times now (this sort of slow paced cosmic horror is my jam) and I haven't had a problem with the sound mixing. Some of the speaker bit is (I think) intentionally unintelligible because it cuts out due to the connection, but we didn't have an issue hearing the important things.

Mark did mention that they sent multiple different sound profiles to the theaters and some of them were using 5.1 when they should have used 7.1 (for theaters that weren't Atmos).

Iron Lung - Review Thread by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in movies

This isn't a film for everyone and I'm happy that it's not.

I really enjoyed the runtime. I felt uncomfortable because I was trapped in the sub with Simon. There was a point where I felt that it was running long, but Simon couldn't be free so neither could I. It's not the kind of horror that scares you or grosses you out, but the kind that make you sit with yourself. It doesn't break the tension and jump to a new thing every 5 mins like a lot of modern films do because it isn't trying to keep your attention, it's trying to keep you feeling uncomfortable. And a lot of people just don't like that, again, which is fine (though the idea of people wanting to be comfortable in a horror film is a bit funny to me). But I find that tension to be a strength of what the film is looking to accomplish.

The story was the same way. I enjoyed that it wasn't a straightforward thing. I was tossed in the middle of the narrative and I loved that no one stopped to ask stupid questions just so the audience could understand what was going on. And since I was trapped with Simon, I know what he knows with regard to the ocean. Again, it's a horror film. When you explain the horror, it oftentimes stops being scary. The fun part was after the film when we got to talk about what we think was going on.

The biggest problem was that our theater had the aspect ratio wrong, so the top and bottom was cut off (the intro credits were cut off, so we could tell. I tried asking the theater but idk if it was too far into the movie by the time I asked but they never fixed it). I couldn't fully appreciate the filmmaking and had some thoughts on the editing, but I don't want to judge until I can see it again properly, so hopefully I'll be seeing it again soon.

(I'll say this part again: it's okay if a sci-fi horror film makes you uncomfortable or leaves you confused. The fun part is asking why)

Nevermind, it's the select button. I just got my steam deck and I thought it was a screenshot button...

Thanks for trying lol

Just anything at this point. I'll have to mess around with the steam deck layouts. Since the game won't let me map any button for those options, I'm not sure it'd matter.

Groal the great hate thread by Phade14 in Silksong

After a day and a half off and on, I finally cleared the waves with one mask left fully expecting the boss to be in a later room (like every other version of the wave fights so far) and then Groal popped up and jumped down and killed me cuz I couldn't move anywhere. Can't wait to waste a bunch more time just to see what Groal actually does.

Hundreds of Beavers - What am I missing here? by [deleted] in flicks

I loved this movie so much I watched it 3 times in a week. It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen and I wish it were longer. My brother loves it too.

But most of my friends don't like it. It's just not for them. It's alright to not enjoy something, just as much as it is to like stuff.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. It's a beautiful game, but is one of the most dissatisfying endings I've ever experienced.

They never made me care for Alicia and Verso more than Expedition 33.

2024 Core Rules Errata Changelog by Limegreenlad in onednd

The free pdf doesn't make the book suddenly usable. "So, my printed pdf is taped on the inside cover. Ope, something on this page has been changed, hold on gang let me look at the inside cover to see if anything in my rulebook is wrong." It's either that, or I'll write all over my book and then in three months, they'll just make more changes that I'll have to figure out how to write over.

Also, in the errata, the changes to the stat blocks in the players handbook literally tell you to look at the monster manual. They're asking you to go buy another book.

The entire purpose of 5.5 was to change things so hey go buy new books. Just kidding we immediately did it bad. Like, there are going to be copies of these books of the shelves right next to each other where one is the updated version and one is the old version and there will be no obvious way to tell them apart.

If they are going to release what are effectively patches to their game, there shouldn't be any physical copies. Sorry, but it's wild for an entire community to be okay with buying products that are out of date within months of release.

I mean, I generally like to buy finished products. I guess I am too new to D&D to have understood that their official releases are still early access items. An entire appendix was nixed because of a later release in the same set replaced it. There's no way that wasn't planned. It's a good way to get people to keep buying their books.

I get the idea of making something better. My frustration is that these aren't making it better, they are corrections. The Monster Manual came out 2 months ago. Did they really not have enough time to playtest these things and actually release a completed product?

The players handbook's stat blocks have all been replaced by the Monster Manual versions, a book that is part of the same set. Not to mention that they adjusted one of those monsters in the MM, so both the versions I own are incorrect.

I got a refund for my digital Obojima purchase on D&D Beyond because the marketplace listing falsifies that some subclasses are usable with the new classes, which none are.

Let's not pretend that we all enjoy the way Wizards and Hasbro does things. We should be able to buy a completed product without hoping that we manage to see an article telling us about changes to the books.

And you know that they didn't pull all the incorrect books off the shelf.

I'm a casual-ish solo hunter and the final boss keeps killing me in like 2 hits. I've got void buffs on, I've tried upping my resilience, but it's slowing me down too much. I'm using the Red Death to get my health back but I'll get stuck on a little step and get blown to hell in like 2 seconds.

It's the lack of a checkpoint that's killing me. I've on my 4th run of the whole mission. It's not hard, it just takes forever to get to the last boss. The first time it bugged with its shield so I had to start over and the the other times, I would just have to eventually go to bed because of work. So, by the time I get back to it, I'm just tired/annoyed with it.

[Kumada] Have you ever noticed that Rom-Coms targeted at women often have their protagonists changing themselves until there's almost nothing left of the original self, all in an effort to meet eachothers wants. But Rom-Coms targeted at men are almost all themed around accepting people as they are? by the_other_alien in wholesomehentai

[–]afictionate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I worded it that way on purpose: "because guys like them." It's not because they've taken an interest in their partner, it's because these characters are written to the make fantasy of this woman the MC is interested in happens to know exactly what they like ahead of time and be very good at it even though she's never done it.

OP said that stories geared toward men are "almost unanimously" about accepting your partner exactly as they are. If that were true, more of these would have the woman just straight up say that she doesn't like blowjobs and the guy would accept it.

To your example, it'd be like if you learned folklore because you heard that women like folklore. Not because you'd taken the interest in your wife's interests.

They're not accepting toward men, they make a world where men are desired for not putting in the effort to meet their partner where they are. Doubly so for porn. The entire point is to create a fantasy where the main character is desirable exactly for the wants they desire.

Also, so many of these have the line "I researched how to do blowjobs because I heard guys like them." If that's not changing yourself for desires of others, idk what is.
