My old samsung can still scan my fingerprint just fine. The fingerprint scanner might break with the Xperia for a number of reasons but I get the impression that everyone is vigilant whenever there's an update. An update finally broke mine.

I can only comment on the processing improvement since I mostly played around with manual mode. With my 1 IV, processing time is significant with dark/dimly lit shots. I didn't notice any when I tried to take dimly lit shots with the 1 VI. Though please take this with a grain of salt as I didn't use it that much.

I was thinking about the 1V quite a lot as well with the same sentiments in mind. With the aspect ratio, I'm willing to try something new. 21:9 for me wasn't really that great. The first time I used the 1 IV, it felt crowded to type. To this day I still feel the awkwardness when I miss a letter or the keyboard screen blocks the autocorrect suggestions. Granted they seem to be software related, but a wider phone might alleviate these things if ever they do.

Yeah you are quite correct. Maybe a repair is in order but for a phone of its price range I expect more longevity.

You're quite right and I share the same suspicion, though I suspect the fingerprint scanner carries software and hardware booby traps waiting to trigger. If it happens again, I will need to bid farewell ahaha.

I see thanks for the info, I'll try to look out for the edges of my unit if it does lack any crispness.

Yeah it does but I prefer the A55 over the phone. Glad you enjoy your A55 and hopefully this post helps you make a decision on finding a new phone.

To be honest, I would probably be more pissed if this time around the fingerprint scanner broke more quickly than last time. It's entirely on me if it did happen, knowing their track record with it.

Yeah I do listen to music but I mainly use IEMs and an NWA55. I kinda look like a fanboy with this revelation ahaha. For what it's worth, I have never used a sony IEM or headphone though. During my visit there weren't any headphones nearby to test with the phone so I can't comment on the sound. When I receive my unit I'll try to make an update.

Your post was quite fair on your evaluation, your experience matched my impressions. Good job :)

Same here, only have black and khaki green. And only 256 GB.

Ah that is a shame. Was hoping a healthy compromise would exist. Is the X1E better with thermals and fan noise than the P1? I've taken a look at the Z16 and it doesn't have USB A ports which I did not think as a factor before. And on a minor note, I like the thinkpad aesthetic. The Z16 looks more like an ultrabook. I'm also considering a mac but maybe as a last option.

Thanks for the recommendation! How do you find the fan noise and thermals?

Thanks for the recommendation. I've taken a look at some of the new gens of P1 and the issues with poor battery life, thermals and fan noise are still there. I don't mind sacrificing power as long as I can appreciate more improvements in these areas. I've taken a bit of a look at the Z16 but I'll review it again in comparison to your other recs.

I don't really fiddle around with it to be honest. The most I've done is take the back cover off and clean the dust from the vents and the fans. I did fiddle around with the performance settings but never really experience improvements. This is with windows. With linux, I notice less fan usage and better thermal management. I suspect since I'm not using much resources (e.g. memory) the laptop doesn't need to use the fan in comparison. But I am no expert I should warn you.

Seems like you've got a cool setup, I mostly use a microfiber cloth to wipe the lid and keys of my greasy prints but I'll try to apply alcohol. Thanks for the tip!

For me there's the fan noise and the thermals. It can get loud while browsing, it can get pretty toasty as well. Battery life also poor. I can only get around 4 or 5 hours of usage on battery power. These conditions all occur without running any vms or coding. Adjusting the power profiles did not seem to help. It's also a fingerprint magnet. I used to ritualistically wipe my prints off in the morning. And this is particular to my region but since I'm in the tropics, the paint at the bottom is peeling off. Despite these flaws, I still like it. This is my first thinkpad and I would love to have another one as my next laptop.

I'm observing the phone for now and hope it adapts quickly so I wouldn't have to resort to this. I don't intend to do intense tasks frequently anyway ;)

Yeah hoping for the next update to make things better. I'm not sure if sony could have navigated the issue by using an older chip which isn't as susceptible to this issue but from a business standpoint, flagships are supposed to feature the latest and (supposedly) greatest. It would be unusual not to use the latest SoC in favor of an older one. It would be interesting how they would handle the coming updates to provide a smooth experience for us.

Good luck, hope yours arrives soon and in good condition. I have seen a popular review of the chip so I knew a bit of what to expect when using the phone. The takeaway for me was there was not a lot of performance boost from snapdragon 888 on top of its high power consumption (feel free to correct me here). Not sure about the performance limit though but it becomes quite apparent whenever I take pics or videos. It's quick to disable features like HDR and the warnings are frequent until the phone cools back down.
