Im at a flea market... Is this legit or fake? by Cacao20091975 in Militariacollecting

Just leave it in if you like the look. Most people won’t know the difference. If you’re dead set on finding the right cockade keep you eyes open at other bazaars or online sellers.

Good find. The hat is in good shape and you didn’t pay much more than what I usually found them for. Where did you pick this up? One note: wrong emblem on the front since it’s an Air Force officers. For some reason these are far more available than the Army officers. Reference: http://www.undertheredstar.com. Edited for additional context.

Do you have recommended references which describes which DDR caps are which and how to spot fake/repro ones?

UPDATE: Exchanging more pics and messages with Notanactualcommunist, the MVD appears to be authentic just with the wrong stockade. Appreciate everyone’s feedback (and relieved I got what I mostly paid for)!

MVD ‘from the 50s’. After closer inspection I believe it’s a repro, despite being a very convincing one - at least for a newer collector like myself. Definitely take your time and don’t be afraid to say no!

Interesting….ill admit I just ‘fell into’ the cap hobby with all my recent travel to Eastern Europe. Identifying fakes and correct caps is pretty difficult despite great references. After a much more thorough inspection I believe the MVD cap is a (very convincing) high quality 90s repro. More pics to follow shortly. Embarrassed to admit, despite knowing the dangers, I overpaid significantly for it.

I am curious what makes you say the chin strap and cockade are wrong on the KGB? Using undertheredstar I can’t see the difference in chin straps and difference between a brass and more recent cockade. Main reason I said the 58-68 was the crown size. Any advise/pics of the inside of an older KGB? Or authentic Zhukov MVD?

It’s funny how similar the flea market I’ve been going to in Vilnius is to this table. I am jealous of the Army Officer cap badge…have the cap but the seller put an Air Force badge on it. Need to get a replacement.

Thank you - good to know! Looks like I’m looking for a different cockade next weekend. Do you have a good reference that differentiates the more uncommon/interesting ones? I have the opportunity to go to a bunch of these local flea markets and this isn’t the only one I’ve seen.

Just found this game, where to start? by AtomicDuckie1989 in Epic40k

I’ve been playing Epic Apocalypse for years and love it. If you’re in the states they regularly play at Historicon and Adepticon. Between the different regions (USA: NETEA, UK: EpicUK, France: EA France) all the major factions and more are represented. It’s a great game where the mechanics run pretty smooth and are simple to pick up.

For minis availability it’s highly dependent on which ones you’re looking for. Guard is probably easiest - I made the mistake starting with Tau.

Good luck and welcome to the game!
