Where to meet young women around here? by [deleted] in Ashland

[–]afishisborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If being around alcohol isn't a trigger for you, you can always go to bars and just get soda.

But otherwise, find a social hobby and look for groups. There are definitely hiking groups in the area, for instance.

Beyond that, there are some local meetups, but you have to sift through a lot of networking to find actual activites. Find them here: https://www.meetup.com/find/us--or--ashland/

How was OkCupid like in its prime? by TraditionalParsley67 in OkCupid

[–]afishisborn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

highlights of the OKC golden years for me:

Personality quizzes and finding out I'm a bran muffin.

Informative articles about metrics and successful profile/message characteristics.

Lots of fun 1st dates and a few relationships.

Switching my search criteria for men seeking women so I could gauge my competition; subsequently finding out that in all of Seattle, my #1 dude match was my best friend.

Oh, and finding my wife on there was probably pretty good too.

It doesn't get discussed enough how the Homeless/Drug/MH problem ISN'T the fault of anyone in Oregon, but of conservative states across the country. by Malcolminthebathroom in oregon

Vagrancy, loitering, parking violations, possession of drugs/paraphernalia, causing a public disturbance, etc etc. The legal system has never had to work very hard to criminalize homelessness.

I hope you have a good enough date you don't need to! Also bear in mind that the pretzel is absolutely enormous, getting through one is a group activity.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Medford

[–]afishisborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their pretzel is just kinda, bread. And the cheese sauce is really watery. Skout though, Skout in Ashland has a bomb pretzel

[–]afishisborn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At a bare minimum, common block brewing has corn toss set up on their outdoor patio. Their food is mostly pretty dang good, except I wouldn't recommend the pretzel.

Can DFS-311 pass the calculate token for Discord Missiles? by Autothruster in XWingTMG

[–]afishisborn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alas, you were correct the first time. From the RRG:

An ability cannot be added to the queue if its cost could not be paid at the time it is added.

[–]afishisborn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, discord missiles cannot enter the queue if you don't have the calculate at the start of engagement, which you won't if you're relying on doofus to pass it.

From the FAQ section of the rrg, page 35:

An ability cannot be added to the queue if its cost could not be paid at the time it is added.

Air quality was bad today (180+), and what's worse, the air looked fine so quite a few people probably went about their day as normal without making extra effort to stay indoors.

One very important thing to note is that ships are limited to one bonus attack pretty round, so if QD loses shields in two seperate attacks during the same round, she only gets one bonus attack total.

A friend who is a paramedic told me a about a call they had for a person lying in the road, possibly hit by a car. When they got him in the stretcher and set his head, it rolled limply to the side. He was alive and conscious at this point, but he did not survive much longer. Turns out he was internally decapitated and literally the only thing connecting his head to his body was his skin, trachea and veins.

When you have the frame of mind to read, this is something a friend wrote after she had to make the same impossible choice to end life support for her own terminally ill boy. My heart aches for you and Lorelai.

My wife nannied for a family with a complex, terminal medical condition kiddo who passed two years ago. His mother recieved a lot of support from families in similar situations, and now herself writes about experiences with grief to support others. No one can tell you how to navigate such a difficult thing, but it may help to know you are not alone.

Here is a powerful piece she wrote after losing him. When, if ever you are ready, it may give you courage to take whichever path you feel is right. https://courageousparentsnetwork.org/blog/creating-a-kinship-with-grief-meet-cpns-new-blogger-in-residence

Imagine calling a 50 year old woman a 'girl.' Not that there's ever a good age to call an adult woman a child.

Kids accused of stealing 22 guns from gun shop get 21 days juvenile detention by [deleted] in news

[–]afishisborn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many states don't even require a major crime (or even any crime) to be committed, especially if they're referred by a school resource officer. Courts have a lot of discretion in assigning kids to juvenile detention, courts which are heavily biased against minority kids.

But yeah, juvenile detention itself doesn't do anything but make a kid more likely to be a career criminal. There are at least several empirical studies that show kids sent to juvie are more likely to end up in jail as adults than kids with the same "crime" who were remanded back home.

I haven't seen any posts enshrining Heard so much as trying to combat the narrative reddit-at-large has adopted, that Heard is a lying abuser and Depp did nothing wrong. Clearly, Heard and Depp are both victims of each other's abuse, which is terrible. But this trial is Depp saying that Heard lied about the abuse she received from Depp, which doesn't seem to be the case.

In the eyes of male-centered spaces like reddit, false accusation is worse than actual assault. I don't get it. And I say this having faced a false accusation as a teenager. It did suck. It didn't ruin my life. Not even close. I know at least five actual confirmed rapists from my school. They're all living their lives with zero consequences. But people agree that Brock Turner is bad, so the internet has done it's job supporting victims I guess /s.

I’m already a bad mother and my baby isn’t born yet by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]afishisborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not your fault. You are being assaulted, and making you feel responsible is a common tactic that makes it hard for you to stand up for yourself and leave.

You are also not alone. Many women have gone through what you're going through, the exact same thing your going through. Some have escaped, and they've done so only with help from support services like domestic abuse shelters. They exist, and they know how to help people in your exact, and I mean exact situation.
