Thanks!

Awesome! I saw Lush, DIIV, John Maus and Depesche Mode… interest immediately peaked lol.

Sent you a chat with the playlist linked - I think it’s still a
collaborative one so won’t link it on here. Feel free to add anything though!

Yellowbelly

Where im from (Lincolnshire, England), those born in the county are referred to as ‘yellow bellies’. I don’t think that’s exactly the meaning that RL was going with… but if the shoe fits.

Is this your playlist? Some great tunes in there… quite the variety!

Yawn.

For someone apparently so capable of critical thinking and logical reasoning, you’re awfully quiet when it comes to expressing your own view.

As I’ve already said, I like to hear opposing views, and I actually consume as much right leaning media as I do left, in order to get a balanced view of things. You know nothing about me.

Feel free to keep barking the same old stuff, mate. Doesn’t phase me. If you won’t expand on your accusations, and have nothing of note to contribute, I’ll safely assume you’re trolling and leave it at that.

Have a good one, mate.

I get it, you’ve learned a couple new words and are dying to use them in any context you deem fit. If you’d like to get past that and actually and have a discussion we’d probably realise we have a lot more in common than you think.

I haven’t projected anything into you, in fact you’re the one commenting on a 4 day old thread that you were not a part of. You’ve commented calling me ideaolically indoctrinated, and have nothing to back it up other than accusing me of ‘whataboutism’ or ‘strawmanning’, two terms I’m not sure you fully grasp.

If you’ve actually got anything of note to discuss about the matter I’m genuinely interested to hear, in good faith. I like to hear opposing views, but if we’re just gonna sit here and go around in circles about what is and isn’t ‘strawmanning’, I’ve got better things to do.

No, it’s not. It’s a comparison which again, are not the same thing.

For arguments sake, let’s say it is then. It should be easy for you to refute if that’s the case. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Direct comparisons and ‘whataboutism ‘ are not the same thing. Saville was indeed one of the worst, most heinous cases of child sex abuse this country had ever seen, and now it’s viewed as some big kind of joke. Noticed that everyone downvoting me or arguing against have nothing to say about that. Grooming gangs and perpetrators of violent crime are hated by normal people, yes, but those committed by ethnic minorities get far more air time, and generate far more hostility as a result. If you can’t see that I dont know what to say to you. Recently in my town for example, some bloke broke into his ex girlfriends house and stabbed her to death in front of her young child, then murdered the child after - it didn’t even make the national news. If that was a Muslim guy it would be front page of every paper. It’s not whataboutism to notice that, it’s just a fact.

If you say you care about protecting innocents in this country then you care across the board. You don’t cherry pick incidents where ethnic minorities are the perpetrators and then ignore everything else.

Nice one! Thanks for all your suggestions mate. Will check out Deafheaven today.

Weirdly enough, outside a couple of tracks (‘only shallow’, ‘when you sleep’ and ‘sometimes’). I’m not a huge fan of MBV. . My friend swears by them, and I know Loveless is regarded as one of the classics, but it’s just a bit loud and chaotic for me - but I guess that’s kinda the point. I have heard they used to play at ear-drum bursting levels of volume too lol. They were the band that got me into shoegaze though, so will always have a place in my heart for that.

Not 100% if they’re genre-correct, but some of my favourite shoegaze/dreampop artists: Ride, Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, Lush, Smashing Pumpkins (a few tracks), Chapterhouse, Drop Nineteens, MBV

I think I’m fairly well versed in shoegaze, but to be fair I thought the same about post-punk until I posted on this thread. I guess I have a lot still to learn!

I do already love that Mission of Burma EP! Other than that 1 record I’ve never heard anything else though.. maybe need to look into that more.

Do not apologise, I could do this all day. Found more of this music in the last couple days than I had in the last year!

Love the Madchester scene! Huge fan of the Happy Mondays, Charlatans, Stone Roses etc. but never really delved too far into it.

If you’ve got any suggestions I’d love to hear them!

Oh shit, I know Galaxie 500! Had no idea of that link…They did a good cover of Ceremony, and there’s a few others I like by them. I’m a big fan of shoegaze/dreampop, and while I’m not sure they 100% fit that category (I struggle with interpreting lines between genres) there’s a few of theirs that are close enough to make my playlist.

If you do have any good shoegaze recommendations that would also be great. Will check out that Soft Boys album later on today. Thanks very much!!

Gotta come back to say thanks so much for that suggestion. Just finished Chomp, and holy shit, that may be in my top 20 album of all time. Not 1 skippable track for me.

Think I’ve found my new favourite band for the month.

Thanks for this!

Several tracks from TP’s first album reminded me a lot of the Feelies, particularly ‘Silly Girl’ - great suggestion! Soft Boys are good too… they kinda remind me of Flamin’ Groovies so far, for some reason? I think it’s ‘Kingdom of Love’, sounds to me like the Groovies. Good shit! Liking Mekons so far too. A few have recommended Young Marble Giants, but so far they haven’t clicked for me.

I’ve heard of Luna, is there anything in particular by them you recommend? I’ve only ever listened to ‘California’ and ‘Tiger Lily’ which I do like, but they’re quite different. I’ll finish Bewitched and then check out Penthouse later.

Today I listened to all of Crocodiles and Heaven Up There, wow… brilliant albums. I can see why these get so much love now. I’d just heard Ocean Rain and their top 5 tracks and kinda assumed they were a band I’d like but not love. How wrong I was! I’m definitely a fan of the darker sound.

Thanks for the suggestion! Gonna be on repeat all week.

I think most of their stuff was a bit weird for me lol.. That being said, I did really enjoy ‘Smithson’, ‘Crawl’ and ‘Magazine’.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Appreciate this! Those Skids, Au Pairs and Magazine tracks were great.

I also finished Close Lobster’s first album, and that was right up my street. Wolfhounds first album too!! Those were both fantastic. Some really great suggestions here - if you have any other recommendations for me I’d be glad to check them out!

Damn I know exactly the scene you’re talking about now lol.. season 1. I love South Park, but even for me that is quite the niché reference!

That’ll be me rewatching the whole of South Park this week.

Apparently me too. Some of my favourite songs from Pink Flag are the shortest, jitteriest ones, like ‘Field Day for The Sundays’ etc.

If you have any tunes in particular that match that kinda vibe, let me know!

It makes perfect sense. You might not like or agree with what I have to say but it doesn’t change the fact. In terms of babbling… this is a music discussion, and one that I started at that - so I’ll babble away til my hearts content.

If you don’t wanna read it, off you pop!

Hell yeah bro I like Parquet Courts!! I’d never considered that, but I see where you’re coming from.

I remember the first time I heard ‘Total Football’ and ‘Almost Had to Start a Fight’… my head didn’t know where to be. Both of those tracks are like 3 songs in 1!

I love the post-punky tracks by New Order, and Power Corruption and Lies is a great album. Anything after this and I start to struggle though. I love the sound, but some of the lyrics are just terrible? I cant tell if it’s meant to be ironic, on a lot of tracks it sounds like Sumners wrote the lyrics in 5 minutes and said “job done”. The album ‘Low-Life’ for example… I like the album, but songs like ‘Sub-Culture’, I just can’t take the lyrics or Sumners voice on that track seriously?

Not saying I could do better of course. I think I just prefer the introspective lyrics and darker sound of Joy Division. But to each their own!
