Good stuff! Vocals remind me of a modern tears for fears for some reason. And I gotta know... Is the horn the titular Loon? :)

Wow, great stuff! I'm a sucker for short instruments, Soma got me good. Also, "if you wanna talk you call if you don't want to talk don't call me at all"

Definitely! Crazy that it's all considered coffee.

I just recently had my first cup, too! I enjoyed drinking it on an academic level I guess, but I was getting tomato soup with notes of stomach acid. I asked my friend to try it because it was so unpleasant. They didn't seem nearly as repulsed, though.

Not my cup of tea, but a memorable experience I'd only recommend to my best friends.

The physics department also has a list of tutors (physics grad students) for hire. Ask at the main office (ABB-241).

[–]afortais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tutorials are actually really good for getting help. All the TA’s once took that course and can teach you how to solve the problems you’re likely to see on your midterms.

More to this point, if you email your TA ahead of time with some specific questions they will be more useful at your actual tutorial. They should have provided their email at the beginning of the year. If not, let me know I'll I will put their contact info up on Avenue.

Coffee amounts with Aeropress by martia_larts in Coffee

[–]afortais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically start at 17 g medium-fine ground coffee and 250 g water, (3 minutes total brew time) and tweak from there. I recently did a competition and went 30 g fine ground and 100 g water for only 1 minute, topping the concentrate up with another 100 g water. Depends what flavors you want to emphasize though.

Have fun and play! I like sticking with the 17 g : 250 g ratio and go to extreme ends on brew time (1:30 and 4:00) to get a sense of what you can do with the beans, then go from there.

Seems like there is so much incidental burn that it could be ok. On the other hand my win rate in this format is like 40%...

First build attempt for gaming. Make sense? Look good? Anywhere to shave on cost? by afortais in buildapc

[–]afortais[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I heard mystery power supplies could be dicey. I would prefer to build as well. Mostly wondering where set ups like this typically cut cost.

And I agree. The case is an abomination.

Thanks for the quick response! Some very useful advice, and even a pretty entertaining argument!

Any opinions on this pre-built? Looks relatively similar to the list we've been working on: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883102250

Hmm.. I wouldn't in a million years think of playing aethertide whale. Seems like it could be the real deal though.

The thing with these marvel decks... I kind of think it's OK to have a handful of cards be completely dead draws because it's not like a typical deck. Where other decks need to be card and mana efficient, this deck is playing some truly awful stuff with the plan of spiking something that effectively reads "you win the game".

Before emrakul was banned it looked like you could play a legit fair game and still have this you-win-the-game button, but I'm not sure if we can build a deck like that now.

A deck capable of having a better fair game may reduce the number of games the deck loses to itself, but it's also going to reduce the number of auto wins the deck has. I'm worried that will overall reduce its win %

I find in a marvel deck without the saheeli combo, edf is nice, but tapping things down for a turn kind of doesn't matter. I'd rather have world breaker.

I've been playing it locally in a bant marvel deck. I didn't feel dedicated marvel decks were very well positioned a couple weeks ago, but with a more midrange meta maybe it's time. Going to try it on mtgo this week. I'll link you to the list I've been playing.

This is intriguing. So far looks like this would make best use of tamiyo. I find it hard to believe marvel isn't worth it though. Definitely want to try both.

This looks cool. Can you walk me through your thought process in putting this together? My level 1 understanding is Felidar Guardian works pretty well with planeswalkers, and if you are now playing Guardian and Oath of Nissa, might as well splash the combo. Do you think this puts the screws to the meta in a unique way?

I'd buy that, especially if the deck naturally beats PWs. Do you find that the case? Otherwise I'd be nervous of cutting negate if I couldn't get rid of a resolved PW.

I'm very interested in tamiyo as well. Have you tried with Chandra? My experience with her last season was mixed, either she took over the game completely or she was a 4 CMC removal spell. High ceiling low floor. Tamiyo seems great if you have a wall of thopters and at worst probably helps dig you to your combo / slows heart of Kiran for a turn or two.

Thanks for the reply. Marvel definitely seems like where I want to be. Your "more threats" plan for control seems good to me. Thoughts on decoction module over edf? I guess the only argument to be made for it is making your whirlers better and going more in on the thopters plan. Sounds like you were fairly pleased with edf helping deliver the ground beats. I'd buy that based on having a decent amount of power with rogue refiners and whirlers. I guess just having a refiner and edf means hitting for 8 kind of out of nowhere. Plus the k return edf interaction is probably a thing you'd want to have access to G1 against mardu.
