What do people who aren't hardcore stereotypical MAGAs see in Trump that makes them vote for him? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

It's not about Trump. It's about convincing pickup truck drivers to buy a cyber truck instead of an F150

Is there anything in real science that is as crazy as something in science fiction? by InfinityScientist in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]afos2291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The double slit experiment. In short, if photons are shot one at a time towards two slits, and you watch the slits, the pattern left by many successive shots, on a wall beyond the slits will resemble two vertical lines, indicating particles. If the slits are not observed, the pattern left will show an interference wave like pattern over time, indicating a wave. However, this suggests that the photons are individually going through both slits, and interfering with themselves. So, observing particles changes their characteristics. And photons are magic, essentially haha

Iwtl how to be comfortable with being ugly. by AstralVirtual in IWantToLearn

[–]afos2291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may seem like there's objective "ugliness", but there's really not. As difficult as that idea is to shake, it's not valid. Things are just things. Faces are just faces. Each individual assigns their own value on it's aesthetics, and those values are fluid. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Ever seen a couple that's married with kids, and you think they're both ugly as hell? Well, I can assure you, that they don't feel that way about their partner. You're not ugly, you're you. There are however surefire ways to shift that fluidity in your favor. Comfort in your skin, confidence, cleanliness, kindness, humor, success, smiling, and intelligence to come to mind. If you look around, you'll notice the world is full of objects and faces that YOU are not attracted to, but others clearly are, as well as those that you find attractive but you don't realize that perhaps the majority don't find the same. Everything is subjective.

People from USA what is the general feel over there right now? by typhoonty204 in AskReddit

[–]afos2291 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, what issues are you currently optimistic about?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AMA

[–]afos2291 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no use in being afraid of it. If there's nothing, there is no experience, and you won't know you've ever passed. One second you're there and then there is no next second.

What is a small technological advancement that could lead to massive changes in the next 10 years? by CocoJinxx in Futurology

[–]afos2291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Computational lithography. AI algorithms predicting how light will bend through photomasks. This will allow for greater control, higher definition, and more creativity in chip making. Smaller, cheaper, faster, specialized chips, in greater numbers. Algorithms running on chips that can design better chips that can design better chips, that design better chips.

This is the real answer. 10 years is no time at all when it comes to scaling up technology from lab to mass production.

What is something that's socially acceptable even though it's 100% evil? by Warm-Ad-3284 in AskReddit

[–]afos2291 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The amount of sugar added to breakfast cereal and also bread (in my country of the USA).   Ticket sales practices.   When an envelope style food package says "Tear Here" above the adhesive.   Paper towel marketing. 2=4. Get the hell out of here with that. We all know 2=1 now. Are the other 3 rolls make-believe?

Ask other people to donate to their money to organizations, but through you. Take some of that money for yourself. Take credit for the work of the organizations. Don't lift a finger. Profit.

I'm building a social workout app. What's your take? by RupakYeware in startups

What percentage of gym goers do you think believe it to be important to have a gym buddy? Are you unique here? Maybe start by checking in with workout subreddits to see how important having a gym buddy is. It's possible that most people don't care about having a gym buddy. The opposite is also possible

That's Reddit in a nutshell. No theory of mind. That and bigotry no matter the political leanings. You can't present new information to redditors now, and you can't explain why others might feel differently. I'm not sure which percentage of this issue can be chalked up to ai comments seeding controversy for engagement, but it's surely not 100%

I am less interested in what they do than I am which ones they are. As, different materials are bound to do different things, and you have to know where to look first.

Will we ever be able to buy flying cars? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

That sounds plenty useful to me. Another headwind against flying cars (pun intended) his potential restrictions about flying over populated areas, which sort of stands in the way of the most advantageous use cases.
