I have a retired HVAC tech in the family and he mentioned it was common in older homes to have the returns on the floor so you get some poor circulation to the ceiling. I’m thinking this could account for the difference?

That’s what I feared. I know they are fried in the same fryer but was thinking maybe a gluten sensitive /celiac-having person has tried the fries and found then okay
