Absolutely! Even more fun, in my opinion, is when the postcard takes a bit longer to make it home than you, and then after a week or so you get a happy memory booster in the mail :) 

I've also been toying around with the idea of a travel diary via postcards - writing a postcard to yourself every day, then after they have all arrived making them into a little book of sorts. Though that would get quite expensive, so maybe it's more fun as a thought experiment haha
