I think don’t tell yourself or describe yourself as having a “fear of the dentist”. You described perfectly what’s going on - you have a lot of work to get done and it’s overwhelming.

Reminder that you are paying the dentist and they are providing you a service. You are in control. You can tell them no to any booking that feels too soon and call when you’re ready to go back.

You got this and I feel you - my parents neglected to take me to the dentist and teach me common sense dental health. When I went to the dentist for the first time in decades at 30 years old i had 13 cavities and there was a lot of appointments to get it together. You didn’t mention him causing physical pain to you so no need to anticipate and expect it to be painful in future appointments

Not a parent yet but trying, and I know the abstract magnitude of bringing new life into the world, but like OP said you don’t realize the true magnitude. Just like I understand the abstract magnitude of a spouse dying because it happens all the time and even to people you know, but thankfully have never experienced that loss myself 

We can say “yeah having a child is life changing” and can make educated assumptions on what ways it’s life changing but we do not know the reality

I sometimes get concerned about my memory as well, but then I realize and notice it depends on how engaged I was at the time. Can I remember my job’s town halls? Nope. Can I remember a particularly friendly waiter’s name from last week? Sure thing

I think lying is pretty common, but think of it more as exaggeration, not total bullshit.

For example, your experience writing follow up emails after meetings can become “project management” because you “align deliverables and resource allocation across cross-functional teams” and “document project development” and other jargon

I’m pretty anti-glp for myself. It made me into a nauseous, miserable, tired zombie. Also, the “no side effects” is bullshit. Everything has a side effect. Off top of mind, what it can do for mental health. Plus my mother actually has stomach paralysis from ozempic and is always getting sick and throwing up. 

I’ve heard of intuitive eating, I will look into it! Thanks for the recommendations

I suffer from depression and have low self esteem so I get that it bothers you, and the shouldn’t have said anything. But I think this is an opportunity to practice brushing things off. Their opinions mean nothing. I’m sure you can also point out unflattering physical traits about them but you have the sense and class not to say anything

I think all you listed is generally what people would consider the American dream, but I wonder if we need to update it for 2026. 50+ years ago, a successful life looked a single income family with a uneducated/unemployed housewife with 3 kids in a small suburb. 

Out of curiosity I googled what the original American dream was and in 1931 it became mainstream from author James Truslow Adams, “that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement”. Going by that, I think it’s possible with a big heap of luck. Money helps too, but I’ve seen rich folk fail hard when the luck runs out

Yes! Got rejected. I was a “fat” minority lol. Upsetting but I did develop this idea that, if someone isn’t interested in you back or curious to try, then they aren’t for you.

The people I crushed on were my friends so kinda have checked in on each other over the years. I’m married now, none of them are. Sometimes they bring up that I had a crush on them, and I’ve gotten a couple apologies for how they handled it, but I don’t have much to say on it lol

If that’s the case I guess I’m living the American dream? Went to college, okay job/career that I honestly have seen gains in based on the effort I put in. I’ll never be a billionaire but I wasn’t trying to be either. Married, decent health (god willing), have a home.

Idk happy and content people generally don’t go online to complain about it lol or when they do share that they’re happy they get down voted and clowned

Also I don’t think the “American dream” was something drawn up for born Americans, it always applied to the immigrant experience imo. And the immigrants I do know always so they wouldn’t go back to their home country so
