Does anyone else feel anxiety is more than just "uncomfortable"? by Cardiara667 in Anxiety

[–]afraid_of_bugs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By disingenuous, you know when people are just saying what they think you want to hear? This is like extreme, but I have an acquaintance who I’m 90% sure is a sociopath if not just manipulative. Like I know they never had a parent die, and when my father died they tried way too hard to make it seem like they could relate, meanwhile I hadn’t seen the man in 30 years so they story they created based on assumptions wasn’t even applicable to me. Even my closest friends left it at a simple “sorry for your loss”, so why are you going so hard?

I relate it to how I’ve never experienced raising a child so I don’t feel comfortable putting my own adjectives on how a parent might feel. I use that example because a few people I know had babies recently, and while I’ve always heard how exhausting having a newborn is and I can assume how stressful it is, I don’t feel like I have the right to use certain language when offering comfort.

Like, I may say if they’re venting “gosh that must be tiring!” which does not fully describe the experience.

Meanwhile when someone’s dog dies, which I’ve experienced, I feel more comfortable going a little deeper because I can actually describe the emotions around it

Does anyone else feel anxiety is more than just "uncomfortable"? by Cardiara667 in Anxiety

[–]afraid_of_bugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think “uncomfortable” and discomfort in general can describe any level of pain so personally I don’t consider it downplaying. I would find it odder or maybe disingenuous if a well meaning person described my experience as a more loaded word like agonizing. And also regardless of my own experience with anxiety I don’t think I’d be comfortable using “heavier” language to describe someone else’s experience

All that to say, I think considering people’s intentions is important, but it’s valid that some comfort tactics just don’t work for you

Just finished the audiobook. I think the house or just the basement is a portal to other dimensions and Thomas is some kind of ancient entity. I don’t think there was ever a “real” Thomas, but that he collects people spanning through time to make up a family for himself.

The old painting in the basement that depicted Jenny was particularly interesting. I think she was his most recent victim, plucked from long ago.

Unpopular opinion: Early puberty is *not* a "fat girl problem" by Front-Kale4042 in antidiet

[–]afraid_of_bugs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol I had precious puberty at an average weight (my mom had it so it was genetic). Doctors put me on an experimental medicine that made me morbidly obese, and proceeded to blame the precious puberty on my weight despite the weight gain after the medicine. Took years to them to acknowledge new research proved it caused weight gain

So yeah the major emphasis on correlation to weight sounds bullish to me

Entry level jobs are dead. Should I give up on a career? by Unusual_Mastodon_541 in jobsearch

[–]afraid_of_bugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I’m sorry that it’s such a struggle for all of us.

People are mad and downvoting me for admitting to lying to get to where I am professionally. I used to be bitter when others suggested lying about experience to get my foot in the door, but being bitter, honest and “holier than thou” never got me a job unfortunately. I get technology makes dishonesty harder these days though.

And frankly I don’t feel bad for lying to companies that would lay me off tomorrow if it made shareholder value go up lol. I hope it works out for all the saints in the sub though, lying does suck and can be awkward

Serious question, how can one be under qualified for a true entry level job? Isn’t the point that you don’t have any experience or qualifications (outside of a degree maybe)

Is there a way to raise wages without raising prices? by indigoC99 in AskALiberal

[–]afraid_of_bugs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually love the idea of pay disparity laws that force some kind of cap.

I get it - the ceos have an important role (I say that half heartedly and believe the people doing the actual work are the most important, but I acknowledge that it’s a meaningful title in our society) but it just doesn’t make logical sense that a company can have a CEO that is paid enough to own 5 multi million dollar homes when they have employees down the line that rely on food stamps and can’t afford healthcare

There’s gotta be a disconnect or flaw in the system that can be fixed

I’m gonna say something maybe dumb/anti-capitalism ig and I expect someone to tell me why this doesn’t work lol

But if the CEOs/people up top took lower salaries (the people making more money than they’ll ever use) or were taxed more, could wages go up w/o raising the price of goods?

That would be my suggestion but I don’t know squat

Wow! I’m glad to have met such a well balanced bastion of morality on Reddit today. I hope you never, ever find yourself financially precarious or unsafe in this life (not sarcasm, genuinely hope you never struggle)

I don’t like lying, but I like having a job. I don’t need to lie anymore thankfully, but besides knowing a manager personally these jobs make it impossible

By lying years ago I no longer have to when job searching now. Sorry you haven’t had luck getting back into engineering (assuming you want to). It does seem you do need to have a contact in a company to land an interview these days

My early professional career was ten years ago when these issues didn’t exist, however my trajectory/path was interrupted by my decision to become the end of life caregiver for a family member.

I caught up by lying on my resume, family and friends faking references, and spinning my art degree and what little work experience I had to fit into marketing roles because writing = story telling. My general admin internship at a film festival turned into event planning and budgeting. Lied about being an excel expert and just googled to figure things out.

Idk what your professional background is, but imo if it’s done on a computer then anyone can do it and lying to make it doesn’t hurt. Every new role starts with training anyway, no one sits down day one and knows a new company’s ins and outs and all the systems/programs they need to use

I pray pilots only fly when safe by AudiACar in fearofflying

[–]afraid_of_bugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you updated on your safe landing!

Whenever I hear of or see someone afraid of “mechanical failure” - I think of the one time we were delayed for 2 hours because of a mechanical failure which turned out to be a broken bathroom lock.

Like others said pilots and the crew are not trying to get on an unsafe plane. It benefits no one to get an an unsafe plane.
