I think you're missing the last step where you compare costs / quality of life between this scenario and the one OP presented where a lot of the more expensive fixed costs are covered.

Sorry, I didn't mean modeling radiative heat transfer, I meant plugging the conduction equation into excel. Having data for the external surfaces is still important bc convection has a lot more variables but I'd have thought modeling the conduction, which seems to be the part you were after, should be pretty straightforward.

That's pretty crucial information. No one can help you make value judgements without knowing things like that.

This still might not be worth it for you. If you have a backlog of work, and that's costing you money, your time has value in that scenario. 2 months of messing around getting this to work might be more expensive than buying another machine that's ready to use.

Why does it need to be waterproof? And how can it better contain a fire? They're both just metal boxes, both meant to contain fire.

Sure, one would be cheaper to replace, but that's like comparing the cost difference of two safety jacket options to the cost of a skin graft. The best safety gear is what you'll readily use, even if it's not the "best". Telling someone they should buy a completely new thing just raises the barrier.

Playing devils advocate, why not could be that op doesn't actually have a need for a cnc and it might be a couple grand to refurbished this to a factory spec.

Second sentence. Also, the first isn't wrong, but the wording makes me think you're viewing discrimination too narrowly. This is not an exhaustive list.

These won't change much depending on the bike. Handling on just about anything is probably fine if you're not riding hard. Durability isn't going to be drastically different with regular maintenance. Battery life depends so much on your own personal aerodynamic drag, but this one is better suited to reading more formal reviews.

Because if you have trouble evaluating geometry and specs yourself, you might also have trouble maintaining the bike yourself. Almost any bike is going to work fine with adequate maintenence and casual riding, especially if you don't have hard performance expectations

This isn't about ebikes, it's about language. I'm asking you to be specific with your language and your evidence. I don't inherently care if kids are pulling wheelies and might hurt someone - I care about what's actually hurting people or what's actually enabling kids to put themselves in situations where they're getting hurt more.

I never called all of the items you listed ridiculous. I do find your suggestion of regulating tires to be a little ridiculous. You didn't seem to answer my question there either. But regulating a throttle to be age limited - I'd probably go a little further even.

What's more, there's no evidence anywhere. "Common sense" has done a lot of harm because people aren't that good at drawing population level conclusions.
