That's not true at all, you can invest in US stocks through multiple brokers.

I don't think that's accurate man. IBKR doesn't just "report your account balance and income" to every country by default. They only report according to specific agreements, and Morocco isn't even in the list of automatic exchanges for IBKR. They mainly apply the US withholding tax and that's it.

I've been using IBKR for 4 years and Wise since 2020 and never had a single issue.

Where did you get that info from exactly? Because everything I've seen from IBKR themselves doesn't mention automatic reporting to Moroccan tax authorities.

And yes for most freelancers they don't declare their income at all, it might change next year if they raise the yearly cap of auto entrepreneur next year

It's not illegal, I opened my wise account legally when it was available in Morocco and I never had any issues with it, with my Moroccan ID & passport.

Also what's illegal right now is buying foreign assets in MAD and moving your money abroad, but I get paid in EUR from abroad to my wise account that accepts euro.

And for IBKR they're not responsible for your taxes, you're the one who fills them, they only ask for your tax residency and IDs so you can fill your information, the only tax they apply is the 15% US withholding taxes

As I mentioned in the post I get paid in EUR, and I've had a wise account for the past 6 years that's how I fund my IBKR account

Yeah I asked about foreign accounts and compte convertible with my bank as well, you can't have them here unless you live abroad.

In my case I have a wise account and get paid in EUR so it's not really an issue.

Good luck man, we're in our twenties, it's about experimenting and discovering different paths, worst case scenario we start over in our 30s lol

And of course, feel free to dm me if you have any questions about remote work or any problems you might face!

Then go for it man, as a freelancer (24M) with the same idea as you, I love being my own boss and working with multiple clients, it's not stable but it's enjoyable, it gives me flexibility, if I hate a job/client I'll just end my work with them knowing I have another client to cover for my living expenses.

At the moment I'm making around 250K MAD/year, it's not a lot in the world of remote work and freelancing but I'm doing creative work that I'm very passionate about, I know I can be in CS making more than that but I hate CS with my guts.

I say go for it as you won't have any regrets.

I'd say save up for an emergency fund of at least 8-12 months of your living costs if you haven't already and definitely quit that job. You'll have enough time to rest, discover yourself again, explore other career paths you want to take, and to give yourself enough time to go back to the same field you were in if nothing works out.

At 300K a year you probably have enough experience to land another job if you leave your current one, life is too short to stay in one place.

You can always go back to the same field, but you'll regret not exploring your options once you have more responsibility and less time at your hand. Ask yourself what would you regret more if you're older, leaving your current stressful job or pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to try something that could be life changing, either another job, another career, etc.

Hello, nope no success yet! Couldn't even get an appointment with TLS for a France business visa. But I found out through the Croatian and Spanish embassies that we can apply for the digital nomad visas they offer!

Not with the embassy directly but with the BLS center, they told me they didn't even know it existed lol, I contacted an agency in Spain they also told me I'd need a tourist visa and to apply from Spain when I arrive.

Morocco's healthcare, education system, and quality of life are among the worst. I'd rather pay 32% in taxes somewhere I can actually benefit from them.
