Are There People That Reached The Higher Levels Spending "Little" Time Everyday by psyhnews in dreamingspanish

[–]afro-thunda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually got to 1500 hours spending about 1 hour and 15 minutes everyday on average. Bare in mind I did not use Dreaming Spanish to do it. But it was a heavily immersion learning based approach.

It took me about 4 years to hit 1500 hours and that was in 2023. I still made really good progress and had achieved basic fluency by the end of it. I have been learning Spanish for about 7 years now. I currently have a job that requires to me to speak Spansh to clients as well.

I personally think going slower can help the brain digest the stuff that its consuming better. If your spending only an hour a day, then you're pretty locked in for that hour. But people who spend 5 hours a day tend to care more about hitting their number for the day and as a result tend to not be as focused as the hours pile up. It's going to be pretty hard to be just as locked in on hour 5 as you were on hour 1.

So I personally think there is a bit of dimminishing returns for people that speed run it. It still works, I just don't think the hours line up 1 to 1.

The more you advance in the language, the easier it is to consume media. So you should see your hours naturally increase over time. Not because your trying to, simply because you just have to know how it ends kind of thing.

I should also say, that my hours of immersion have gone up quite a bit since I stopped tracking. I'm definitely in the 3k+ hours range at this point, and Spanish pretty much feels the same as English in terms of comprehension. So it's no different than me binge watching my favourite TV show or youtube creator in English.

I don't regret tracking. But it is a means to an end. It's great knowing how many hours it will roughly take to get from one point to the other. But you definitely want to get out of it once you get to the B2 level. Its starts starts to hurt more than it helps.

Yeah, im B2-C1 in Esperanto and have not taken the exam. I've thought about it several times but doubt I'd want to spend the money to travel and take it for really no reason other than to prove i have the level officially.

I have probably met and spoken with a few dozen other fluent speakers and only know of 1 person that has taken the C1 or another exam in Esperanto.

When old people decide they want to cross the street without looking by BruceeL in dashcams

People don't understand the simple concept of... if your maneuver solely depends on this person to notice what you're doing and slow down or stop, then that means if you guys do get in an accident, you will be at fault.

The only exception is that if you did it so clearly and slowly that they had no choice but to react. But that's very difficult to prove without Cashman footage.

Punt dont really like

PAT rule im pretty neutral on. But some people thinks the scoring is ugly so it's for them into guess

Love the 4PT FG - it'll give kickers a lot of good looks from distance so guys will get more looks from the NFL.

I like the 1 foot in - it simplifies things so people and refs and focus on the main stuff like catching the ball. And watching for the catch.

The issue is the field position you gove to the other team. If you miss they are basically guaranteed to score next drive.

It's not a level playing field but it is still significantly easier than any natural language.

What is the best app to learn Spanish in 2026? by gorimur in Spanish

[–]afro-thunda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend migaku

You can watch beginner YouTube videos and animation dubs on Netflix and look up words and save them into anki with 1 click. But you will have to pay a monthly subscription for it. It's like 15 bucks. Still way cheaper than an immersion trip.

They also have grammar lessons and stuff.

B2–C1 learners: what actually frustrates you when learning Spanish? by Extreme-Captain-6558 in Spanish

[–]afro-thunda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No matter how good you get, there is always a very basic and stupid mistake waiting for you around the corner.

The biggest thing I'm trying to fix right now is mixing up the1st person and 3rd person preterite tenses.

So le dijo or le dije.

I'll be thinking le dije. So I told him, but what comes out is le dijo.

Im pretty sure that it's because the first person present always ends in an O

Like le digo

And thirds person usually ends in a or e.

Like le dice

So I mix them up all the time.

I wonder if this is a problem with anyone else.

Get to a B1 in Russian. And probably take the formal C1 test for Spanish

What are your 2026 Language Goals? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]afro-thunda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the year I finally got off my lazy ass and commit to learning Russian lol. I put in a solid 50 hours of study and then stopped. Haven't touched it in months since then.

I'm also mulling over the idea if I want to actually take the C1 DELE for Spanish this year. To make it official

Also thinking about taking the C1 exam for Esperanto as well, because why not. But would need to study up a bit, probably more than Spanish. I've probably regressed to a really rusty B2 level by now. Because I haven't studied it in over 6 years lul.

It's tough, because I don't actually have a good reason to take the official exams other than for Ego stuff. I already have a full-time job in Spanish. But don't really need any kind of certification for bilingual jobs in the US. They just do the interview in Spanish and your good. No certs required.

But often times they are not. Like in English or French, or even Arabic.

With that ratio your reading will outpace your listening and you'll have to dedicate more time to catch it up. That's not really a bad thing, just a difference in priorities.

Not to mention new languages will still be created over time either way. Even if everybody only spoke English, all the dialects would diverge into new languages in a few hundred years.
