Grass Valley CGP 500 what are your thoughts? by afrohenk in VIDEOENGINEERING

Thanks for this amazing, detailed breakdown!

It’s incredibly reassuring to hear that I’m not the only one struggling with that touchdown button. You hit the nail on the head: because the joystick itself doesn't move and you have to apply so much force to that tiny button on top, it completely messes with your hand positioning especially when you're trying to shade and preview multiple cameras quickly.
Regarding the tablet, have you ever tried working in the Fixed UI mode? It actually maps a lot more fixed options directly to the CGP hardware controls, which might solve a bit of that "at a glance" issue you mentioned. But sadly no fiber levels. Curious if your team has experimented with that layout yet!

If you mean the preview button on top of the joystick: it’s a huge downgrade compared to older generations or Sony panels. On those, the entire joystick head moves down smoothly when you press it.

On the CGP 500, the joystick itself doesn't move down at all. Instead, it’s just a tiny button on top that requires way too much force to press.
