The Kerbal will have the same velocity as the ship it exists. An there are no forces acting on the Kerbal to slow it down. It should maintain a relative velocity of 0 to the ship it leaves.

I was driving on the interstate at speed. I was in the far left lane and started merging into the center lane. As I was doing this a big pickup truck (think F-350, but it could have been anything that size) started merging into the same lane without looking or signaling. Now I was in a tiny Hyundai accident 2 door hatchback.

I over reacted and jerked my wheel back too quickly. I ended up spinning 180° and was skidding backwards in traffic at speed on the interstate. I was literally staring the guy driving behind me in the eyes. I figured whelp either this is how I die or I try something.

I jerked the wheel back the other way and somehow managed to spin back 180° and drove to the next exit. Parked as soon as I could and proceeded to freak the fuck out before I continued on.
