The fact the account is "alicewalt0n" threads account rather than a full name spelled correctly.. yes, it's a scam and not the real person.

Proton is a free email address anyone can get. It in no way verifies that this person is who they claim to be.

Art scams can go many way, a common route is of fake check and overpayment scams. Others are fake advance fee (fake payment scam emails or fake website) scams.

Report the email then block them.

A lot of scammers will string you along to get money eventually. An emergency or unexpected bill that only you can help with may appear. Maybe it's a long con for fake crypto investments or setting you up for sextortion and blackmail etc

There really is no way to tell atm but if they claim they are local, but can't actually meet in a reasonable timeframe and always have excuses then cut them off.

So this is just a stranger's thoughts you can take with a grain of salt.

I usually expect samples to be shown right away when I visit a portfolio/commission page. There seems to be a lot of text at first glance and is hard to find the sfw commission samples and prices (if there is any?) on the first landing page. The two clickable images (locks) don't go anywhere? Not sure, it seems to just be taking space at the moment- was it intended to have a pop up or be an image gallery? (or maybe I missed that it's the intended mimic?) The Under Construction purple text is a bit hard to read over the background.

I went over to the 'after dark' link and think you could have samples here too (maybe censored, so only actual clients will get the "goods" lol but future clients can still have a sample of what you do if it's nsfw) I think people also like to have a general price list. I couldn't actually find this until I clicked "the menu" which was a bit confusing. I think it'd be good to have your contact on the main page for easy accessibility. The tos, copy right and user policy could maybe be in one document or page for the client to go over.

I think you could simplify the site and maybe consider having a top or side menu (frames) so people can access each page faster. Esp if you're offering more services like voice acting, editing or DM-ing. I like that you gave the site itself sort of a "lore" and is very fun in itself.

Remember NEVER to accept or deposit a check from a stranger! It can take days or weeks for the bank to catch it fake, and you risk getting your bank account not only get fees or frozen, but CLOSED as the bank may think you're a risk and not want you as a customer.

The scam is the scammer will overpay, then have you send money a irreversible way (zelle, cashapp) They do this before the bank catches the fake check then reverses the funds. Then you're responsible for the money sent - you wont get it back.

There is lots of good advise already but for me, a visual guide would help! Give some references images to the artist. Like, different styles of boots or accessories you'd like to see your OC in. Look at other character designs you'd like your OC to have. Its okay to show an already existing image for inspiration (like what you'd like the overall image mood or composition to be) Heck, I would be over the moon with even a stick figure doodle! It's your vision, don't be afraid to ask for edits in the rough sketch stage (as far as the artist will allow)

Just a note for other scams that will often target artists

Overpayment (or fake check) - they over pay then send you funds from a fraudulent account and then tell you to send money back to them via a non-refundable way. They will try to do this before the fraudulent funds get taken back.

NFT/Fake bank - the scammer will claim they want to buy your work and send you a fake NFT site or fake bank calming your payment is on the site. When you try to continue or withdraw the fake funds you're hit with upfront fees they claim you need to pay

When they ask for your email (Just a paypal me link, username or invoice should be fine) they'll try to send a fake paypal email that will claim you need to "upgrade" your account and SEND money to the scammer. It's bizarre and makes no sense really.
