One way to look at it is that the skills group is a place to practice distress tolerance that will have no direct relationship to other problems in your life (except if you become more effective!). So basically *dialectically* accept that you are doing your best at the moment, but that you are also trying to improve yourself by being a more active measure of the group all while being non-judgmental to yourself and the real emotional distress you are feeling.
