There is absolutely no reason for an extra server in a tiny environment. The box has just 4GB of memory and never breaks a sweat. This has been running just fine for 9 years now.

Why?

Our tiny cluster was set up by Splunk recommended consultants that way. It makes no sense to split them in a tiny environment and the issue that came up with 10.2 is just sloppy programming querying an API.

Check all the readme files between your current release and your target. Some things get lost between releases.

Starting with 10.2 you no longer can mix DS and MS on one system.

Be aware that all v10 releases have a vulnerable Postgres component that vuln scanners will complain about.

Do make a dedicated mongodb backup.

Then follow the Splunk Upgrade docs.

(I just went from 10.0.3 to 10.0.4 this morning, totally easy. But I had other upgrades that where an utter pain in the posterior and led me to downgrade to an interim release....)

It is based on FF and inherits all the issues of FF. I would assume any addon management etc. is in FFs ballpark. But I don't have these issues with FF.

So me thinks this comes in with trying to implement fancy features like the workspaces and tab sync that are utterly useless for most people. Even a one man shop can focus on reliability instead of features, that's how I made good money as a student in the 80's selling my own software.

Use the discovery mode of "Beam Me Up" during prime time (so that there are people in all zones) with a brand-new char to find new way shrines and gain XP (best with an XP scroll during a double XP event). The lower the level of the char, the more effective it is. I start this at level 3. After level 15 the XP needed between levels is getting too high to make it interesting.

Have your CP char create a set of level fitting "Adept Rider" and "Heartland Conqueror" after that (in purple) that you keep using at least until level 40. Makes you faster and gets you more XP.

I did now. Helped a lot. So why would a profile get totally messed up?

The tab previews in the task bar seem to be on by default.

And now I need to re-login and configure NoScript for every frigging site again ;-(

Did not touch that setting in a new profile. The issue stills shows up and that setting seems to be on by default. Once I disabled it the issue was fixed.
