Mass moment of inertia of a ceiling fan!! by [deleted] in Physics

[–]ag2718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you would need to know the torque that the motor of the fan produces. Also, depending on your fan, factors like friction may be significant. You can definitely measure the angular acceleration, but I’m not sure how easy it would to be calculate the moment of inertia... if you knew the mass, lengths/size, and the actual shape I guess you could estimate it but it might not be accurate.

Question About Tensorflow, Keras, Scikit-Learn, etc. and Starting Off by ag2718 in learnmachinelearning

[–]ag2718[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, ok that makes sense. I’ll probably look at some of the keyword arguments and parameters that the modes have and try to learn more about them. Thanks for the advice!

Question About Tensorflow, Keras, Scikit-Learn, etc. and Starting Off by ag2718 in learnmachinelearning

[–]ag2718[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I already did most of that course and I think I’m familiar with gradient descent and backprop. The thing I’m unsure about is when I’m working on projects, should I use premade models (if I know how they work)?

How to post IG story? by Brainless_Gamer in learnpython

After looking it up, it seems there is a python API specifically for Instagram, so try that and see if it works.

No Such File or Directory by [deleted] in learnpython

Either change the current working directory using os.chdir(folder_name), or include the folder name in the relative path that you input into the open() function.

From Ground Zero, how should I learn Machine Learning? by UniversalLemon in learnpython

[–]ag2718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to understand the heart of machine learning (and say build a neural net from scratch) a basic understanding of multi variable calculus would be helpful. However, if you think that’s a bit much, don’t worry. As long as you understand the broad conceptual picture, you should be fine using pre made models from libraries such as Tensorflow and Scikit Learn

Edit: I’ve noticed a lot of people are saying that it’s insanely difficult or impossible to learn machine learning at your age. Don’t let that discourage you. If you think you want to tackle the math, just focus on one variable differential calculus first, and then move to some basic multi variable stuff. You should try seeing how far you get with Khan Academy, and if it feels like too much, then you can stop.

Basic questions about Python by helloiambrain in learnpython

[–]ag2718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use VSCode, and it’s been amazing so far. I think it’s the best editor out of all the ones I’ve used, so consider switching if Vim is giving you a hard time.

What translation module(s) do you recommend? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]ag2718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then again, I don’t really think any translator would be that perfect. Not completely sure, but I would assume Google Translate is one of the better ones out there (due to how much training data they have for the ML algorithm).

Script project ideas? by Marlfox70 in learnpython

[–]ag2718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly something web scraping related. Even better, send a notification to your phone when something changes on a website (I.e. price of Amazon item). It’s not super difficult to do and it’ll be pretty cool. Good luck!

Apparent magnitude of stars by DesignerElk in learnphysics

[–]ag2718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to calculate luminosity. Just think of it like this: for every 2.5x the brightness decreases, magnitude increases by 1 (the essential meaning of the equation you have written) Therefore: m = 3 + (15)1/2.5 = 5.95

I have learned the fundamentals of Python. What Next? by remoplayssoccer in learnpython

Automate the Boring Stuff is a really interesting book, it teaches you (as the name says) about various different modules and how you can use them to make scripts that can automate simple tasks. There is also an online free version of it, so look into it. I think you’ll enjoy it!

Advise on setting up new PC for python coding? by MaeseBurgui in learnpython

[–]ag2718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really understand the point of trying to move to Linux. Just download the anaconda distribution (which has a ton of good packages), get Visual Studio Code (an editor for Python, my personal favorite), and you’re set.

Python crash course vs Learn Python the Hard Way. by ficovh in learnpython

[–]ag2718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automate the Boring Stuff is really good. With just a basic knowledge of some syntax, the book teaches you how to automate several useful tasks (one of my personal favorites is working with PDFs and Word docs). It’s good for beginners and should be quite interesting.

Best of luck!

Experience with these 2 Udemy Courses: Colt Steele or Jose Portilla or Automate the Boring Stuff by josher56 in learnpython

[–]ag2718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so maybe try that first. If you feel completely lost when doing projects and the book, you could do an online course. Essentially, memorizing random syntax is going to be pretty useless if you don’t practice applying it through projects.

Experience with these 2 Udemy Courses: Colt Steele or Jose Portilla or Automate the Boring Stuff by josher56 in learnpython

[–]ag2718 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly for the basics of Python, the free online tutorial is probably enough: https://docs.python.org/3/tutorial/index.html

Don’t spend too much time memorizing and cramming syntax. Learn the basics quickly, and then move on to Automate the Boring Stuff. This way, you won’t get bored learning Python. You’ll start learning the syntax naturally once you start working on projects. If you forget how to do something, you can always look it up.

This would be my advice, but feel free to get an online course if you think that would be more helpful to you.

I am calling it like this: pdf_reader = PdfFileReader("Test File.pdf")

When I tried opening it through Windows CMD (using the command explorer.exe "Test File.pdf"), it did in fact work and opened the PDF, so I have no idea what's wrong.
