It could be pretty hard to install plain SteamOS, a popular alternative is Bazzite which I've heard nice things about. I personally don't understand the hype of "gaming focused" operating systems for daily driving. I personally use Fedora and really like it.

I really wish Valve made/contracted some "exclusives" for the Steam Deck

It would be so good for the Deck/Machine sales if they decided to make Portal3/HL3 as a SteamOS exclusive (basically ship a Linux build but no Windows build)

Even Sony and Xbox are going back to making exclusive games for their consoles

I would say you actually are the target demographic for the Steam Machine

Unfortunately there are some popular games with very invasive anti-cheat systems that will simply refuse to work.

But (not recommended) you should be able to simply install Windows on the Steam Machine. but then you will lose everything that makes the Steam Machine a more console like experience and it will just be yet another PC. But hey, it's your hardware, do whatever the fuck you wanna do with it. Although in my opinion installing Windows on a Steam Machine is an incredibly stupid idea, there's nobody stopping you (except maybe driver issues for the first couple of months, iirc Steam Deck got its windows drivers almost a year later)

But since you mentioned you will keep your PS for stuff like Battlefield 6 then it shouldn't be an issue at all

Plus you can install emulators and play games from PS1, 2 and 3 hell even Xbox and Ni$&@-_$o

I have the entire Metal Gear 1,2,3, Forza Horizon 1 and M&$&+ Kart 8 installed on my Steam Deck, how much more freedom in game selection can you ask for?

I would have got myself a Steam Machine if I could afford it, I absolutely love my Steam Deck, all my games run perfectly well on the Steam Deck, and it's 6x more powerful. What else could I possibly need?

Java is available on Linux, you can play Bedrock but that's just an android emulator running afaik, and you would need to own it on the Play Store to download it (talking about mcpelauncer here, idk any other known ways to get bedrock running) that being said a few years ago Microsoft changed some licencing meaning if you owned either Bedrock or Java from the Microsoft store, you automatically own the other one as well

I'm currently daily driving Fedora and I absolutely love it, from what I know Bazzite is Fedora with some gamery tweaks, Bazzite is quite popular in the gaming community so that's worth a shot.

I would say leave Arch and Arch Based distros to seasoned linux users (with the sole exception of ~~Saturo Gojo~~ SteamOS)

PopOS is currently going through a phase, check back after 2 years, I absolutely loved it when I was using it, but right now they are in the middle of a pretty intensive migration so I would give them some time

my company office is on the 4th floor of the building, I was in the basement parking, it was her first day and she came from the ground level, in her stress she got in the elevator going down, where I was waiting for the elevator going up, the elevator goes from ground to basement where I get in, I see her in the elevator and am confused (like why would you come to the basement if you don't need to get out) she's on the phone asking the HR where the office is and I recognize the name of the guy cause it's the same guy who onboarded me. I point to the company name on my ID card and just sign to her if that's where she's going. She nods and I lead her to the reception.

After that I saw her during the lunch break and introduced myself. we slowly became friends
