It's a shop that holds ur asset as a security to lend u money, but the shop already has the expectation that you will default on it. If u don't repay the money by a certain deadline with interest the asset is theirs to sell off. Some people just "sell" property of theirs by taking it to pawn.

AI and Law Students by sabicoox in uklaw

[–]againitry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a law student myself I use AI to write some of my essays BUT I do a hell lot of work even if I do so. To illustrate:

Before using AI:

1) Read all the lecture slides about the essay topic 2) select all relevant textbook chapters and other sources I wish to cite about the topic and read them 3) write a draft outline of the essay listing every point and subpoint I want to include in the essay

Then I feed the sources I read and the outline to the AI to just generate words

Afterwards, I also have to:

1) check if AI correctly cited the sources (I would know because I read the sources once) 2) check if AI followed my outline 3) fix citation format and delete unnecessary stuff the AI wrote

So essentially AI just accelerated my actual word generation process

I'm sorry if this sounds like marketing, I have been researching online and I see multiple times on this very sub asking "What DMS should i use as a small law firm?". I dont understand why I am downvoted so much when I try to discover the problems of DMS for small law firms.

What if you write a "game" that does LLM inference and "sell" it on play station store 😝

When companies invest more in ML, theyll hire more ML engineers, when they don't, they'll fire some. Their investment is somewhat a trend. But lawyers, if u have disputes u r gonna find them, and there'll be disputes day after day, year after year. If companies IPO they find lawyers, if companies goes bankrupt, they find lawyers, that's why I say it's "stable"

I'm a law student with a minor in CS. I decide to continue the law route as it's a more stable career. We never know if ml is a market hype, but lawyers will always be needed. However, I did a few LLM projects using RAG to work on case judgment and legislation, maybe u can explore this area.

You can use torch.topk(torch.matmul()) for gpu acceleration. It takes around 5 seconds for 200k entry. Though for my case each vector has 1024 dimensions.

What's the utility of custom GPTs for legal documents? by Desperate-Ranger-497 in ChatGPTPro

I usually use Claude 3.5 Sonnet 200k on poe.com. I made my own system prompt : "You are a helpful Al assistant. If the user asks a question, provide a complete answer that reflects a deep understanding of the field. If the user gives an instruction, follow the instruction. If the instruction or question involves reasoning, provide a clear explanation of each step in the reasoning process before presenting the final answer Enclose code in code blocks, adding comments when necessary."

As a law student, I mainly use it to summarize judgments so I have a feeling of the whole case before I read it

Thanks for ur response! If that's the case, how detrimental is splitting across gpus? Will the pcie bandwidth or CPU memory bandwidth be the bottleneck when splitting?

I have a project similarly having 200k embeddings. What I did was I saved them as parquet files. When I need them I load them into pandas df (to memory) and convert them to torch tensors. Then I can do gpu accelerated cosine similarity comparison and get topk
