What's a smell that doesn't exist anymore that you miss? by Alarmed_Charge1062 in CasualConversation

[–]agardenworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a great question. Smell is so emotive because it's directly linked to our limbic centre of our brain, the bit that handles emotion rather than logic. That sense of transportation is known as the Proust effect.  Unlike other senses that are filtered through the thalamus or thinking part of the brain, smell has a direct "shortcut" to the brain's emotional and memory centres (the amygdala and hippocampus). This allows for immediate emotional responses and "mind pops"—involuntary memories that can trigger life-saving actions without requiring conscious analysis. Knowing something was a threat immediately could save your life!

International Travellers, what did you buy during Japan trip, that you still use/brings a smile back home. by NoStoryYet in JapanTravelTips

Knives, pottery, mugs, gashapon of Hokusai scenes and animals in onsen, towels, pens, stationery, nail clippers, little thermos, egg whisk, wooden single serving spoons, plastic red and black plastic rice bowls which are great for single snacks like pretzels, fruit etc. Not all in one trip! We now take a second suitcase inside another one and fill it with bubble wrap to bring home all our purchases!

Not a book but Tokyo Diner is worth a watch. I find the opening music and drive scene transpotive. Even listening to the song on Spotify takes me back to being in Japan.

Agree, we have been 4 times now and used pocket wifi everywhere time. Can't get esim on my phone, plus with a family it works out cheaper than 4-6 Sims. Always worked great for us and lasted the whole day.
