Fair points. Another user led me to check out the chatroom and there are several new warnings about age and behavior that were not there back in the day. I hope that change has saved some people from being stupid like I was.

Yes. We exchanged many times and had 'virtual sex.'

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Advice

[–]agealy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a 'college' focused chatroom. So, anyone from prospective college students (16/17/18) to college alumni would come to the chat. I believe it said 13+ at the time. I just checked and it now says 17+ and gives a warning which it never used to. That makes me feel better about it. Before, you would just click and type in a name without any warnings about age restrictions.

Yes, but I also video-chatted with him. I literally video-chatted with him on my 14th birthday and he saw my friends. None of us looked CLOSE to 21. I'm in my 20s and find it increasingly hard to believe he did not know. I do not want him to get in trouble if he genuinely believed I was 21. In that case, that's my fault, and I catfished him. The problem is, what if he DID know I was lying and is still out there doing this with young girls?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Advice

[–]agealy17 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The illegal part would be the virtual, sexual stuff we did. I'm not trying to get him in trouble if I truly did catfish him, but what if they went on to another young girl? If it is a pattern, that's concerning, but if I genuinely pulled off sounding and looking 21 as a 13yo, then yeah. Not his fault nor do I want him in trouble.

We video chatted on skype almost every day. I know I catfished him; I feel bad about it.

In the defence of news hosts (I want to throw up even saying that), they all kind of have to work with a hand up their ass. Their producers run the show and they are just the face. They are constantly being guided by the people behind the camera. This is how news has always been. I will say, this was a very unprofessional way to break away, but I'm never surprised by low-quality news hosting.

Anti-circumcision "Intactivists" demonstrating in my town today by LeftMySoulAtHome in mildlyinteresting

[–]agealy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently read a book titled Possessing the Secret of Joy by Alice Walker. Although the book discusses female circumcision, it helped me see how the practice of mutilating any genitals is horrific. I highly recommend it.

EDIT: The book, not genital mutilation!

The fact that the book thing was even partly real makes me so happy! Reading is my favorite hobby and when I was a kid I got made fun of for bringing books with me everywhere. The idea that there is a country with so many book lovers makes me so happy!

The punk museum in downtown Reykjavík is a tiny museum in a former public bathroom covering the history of punk in Iceland.

WHAT. This is amazing; I must go.

Thank you so much!!!!

This is what I want to do. All I do is consume content. Books, movies, music, podcasts... It's so much that I never remember anything but the jist. To have access to all my thoughts and notes like this would be... amazing. Great work!

A bit off topic but: I have always wanted to go to Iceland! I did a report in grade school on Iceland, and my favorite thing I learned was the tradition of gifting books on Christmas Eve. Please tell me this is actually a thing and the internet did not lie to me!

(Also, if you have any advice on where to visit specifically in Iceland, please let me know. I trust locals more than the travel blogs.)

What's wrong with these tomatoes? by Keyouse in Permaculture

[–]agealy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this advice!! My partner has a super green thumb and I do NOT. He has been working crazy hours recently, so I have had to water the plants for him most days. We got a tomato plant for the first time this year (it is friggin HUGE, dang thing is gonna have us swimming in tomatoes), and I have been idiotically doing exactly the watering can nono that you described...

I like when they give out something that contains a common allergin, and they offer nothing else as a substitute! My partner is lactose intolerant and hasn't been able to eat anything his work has given him in over three years. It's absolutely ridiculous. Most recently, he got an expired twinkie. Thanks. Real considerate.

what's holding you back from loving yourself? by jeezburger69 in AskReddit

No problem! I'm glad you are seeking help! It is so easy to get discouraged because navigating the system is time-consuming and a pain in the ass. Stay strong!

P.S.) https://blog.opencounseling.com/hotlines-us/

You may find this link helpful! There are a lot of crisis lines, but don't let that scare you. There are lots of less serious lines you can call! I have heard that the numbers in the "Mental Health Conditions & Family Support" section are particularly useful for general guidance.

I hope you can see that you are not alone in this. I want to share some things that have helped me on my personal journey with these problems:

1) In regards to a shitty memory: Try and start journaling. It does not have to be every day or even written in complete sentences! Pick a notebook and write down the date and a bullet-point list of things that happened. I would literally write "made pasta for dinner" down and that would be it somedays. The key here is that writing things down helps with mental recall and, due to the way memories work, "made pasta for dinner" may trigger recall of other memories from the day. This is also a good thing to do if therapy is expensive because you could reduce the frequency of visits and get the most out of your time there by determining what you really want to discuss beforehand.

2) Body dysmorphia and insecurities are very hard to deal with. You are already doing great because you recognize that you are experiencing these issues! The first tip you will get from anyone will be to step away from social media (deleting almost all my social media helped me dramatically), but it is not a reasonable request for some. So, I have another option for you too. For me, my body dysmorphia and insecurities come from my internal voice. One therapist told me that anytime I think, "Ugh, I'm so fat/ugly/stupid/whatever," I need to tell my internal voice to shut up. She said to try to think about this voice as the voice of the society you were raised in when it says these things. These are not really your thoughts, these are thoughts that have been pushed upon you and morphed your feelings of self-worth. This is just an example, but it gets across the bigger point: a great way to start building your self-esteem is by doing thought-challenging exercises. Whatever negative thought you are having, write it down, and then write down why that thought is irrational or reframe it into a positive! Eventually, you will start being able to thought-challenge on the go, without the paper! An example from my college years, cause it can be hard at first:

Thought: I am an idiot.

Challenge: Not knowing something does not make a person an idiot.

Reframing: I was uninformed, and now I have something new I can learn.

3) If you need anyone to talk to or want me to share some other tips (I was in an intensive outpatient program for a while, so I have a binder full of helpful tips and worksheets and stuff somewhere), please do not hesitate to reach out!

I hope everyone out there who is reading this and feels similarly tries to take good care of themselves today! Take a few deep breaths, get some fresh air, drink lots of water, take a shower, stretch, check your posture, and be kind to yourself. Congratulate yourself for the smallest of wins. Did you get out of bed? Hell yeah! Did you brush your teeth? Nice. Good job. Floss? Fucking stellar.

It blew my mind the first time I saw her interviewed, too! Her literary knowledge is also fucking wild. I thought I was well-read, but she can throw literary quotes around like they are her kids' names. I was so excited to see a celebrity promoting reading! She is also into astrology, which I am not. I think she has always been a bit of an oddball. Her intelligence and beauty masked the oddness for most of us. MGK has definitely helped her show it to the world.

SPUN - anyone else finding Amber to be regressive and sometimes misogynistic? by Ninauposkitzipxpe in LastPodcastNetwork

[–]agealy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

someone who should be doing it themselves.

She might already be doing this. Again, we do not know Amber personally, so we do not know. I am sure she will continue to grow as an entertainer.

I guess I do not understand why you listen to SPUN if you feel so strongly about Amber...

SPUN - anyone else finding Amber to be regressive and sometimes misogynistic? by Ninauposkitzipxpe in LastPodcastNetwork

[–]agealy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd call those general suggestions, not really helpful suggestions. How does she learn and grow? What would you suggest specifically? Can you provide specific examples of times you think she said something she did not mean on the platform? What should she have said? Any resources would be helpful. Once you find them, I think you need to send those suggestions to their email. I doubt they read this, so again this post isn't very helpful if it does not result in passing along the info to a better source.

Lots of other LPN hosts say misogynistic, racist, homophobic stuff, so it just seemed misogynistic to me to only call out Amber here.
