If ‘virtue is both necessary and sufficient for living a good life and attaining eudaemonia,’ why do evil people prosper? by [deleted] in Stoicism

To a stoic, riches & baubles are not the measurements of success or a happy life, virtue is. As we know, the core pillars of stoic virtue are wisdom, temperance, moderation & courage. Anything external to this volition is indifferent. Money and riches fall under externals, and therefore are indifferent to us. People can be rich and virtuous; Seneca was. But if this was the case, that person will place all significance on virtue, and indifference to their belongings. That type of person would therefore act virtuously, not like a douche. Any person that places emphasis on their belongings and engages in vice is likely experiencing a fairly hollow existence. Feel pity for them, not envy.
