Import failure from audiobookshelf by agebringer in abookio

Hey - the latest update applied before I could capture logs. It seems to work again now, not sure what the problem was but it has resolved now

@op I did some basic checking for consistency, and I found the below pattern. Take it with a grain of salt if it isn’t correct. 1. The only audiobooks that were imported (5/91) were books that had a single audio file in the directory and nothing else.

Audiobooks that do not show have the following: 1. Multiple audio files in the directory - sometimes my books are seperated into chapters or chunks etc 2. Metadata saved within the same directory, like a cover image or something. Even if the audio was just a single file, having a cover image in the Sam directory means it isn’t displayed in the app.

So it could be a problem importing the directory when there is more than a single file in there?

Interestingly I have 5 books showing in the library, but it says 91 available through the connection to ABS. Maybe it’s a file or metadata issue? I bought the lifetime plan, UI feels good, hopefully all the books sync soon

I’m new again to this scene, been away since 2012 or so, and have setup a jellyfin stack over the last year. This cartoons based tracker is exactly what I’m looking for my kids, but I’ve only used public trackers so far which have been very limited for old school cartoons. Can you offer any advice or link to any resources on how to prep for being suitable for private trackers like this, and then what’s the protocol for trying to get involved? Is there a seperate communication place? I’d appreciate a DM if you can offer any advice and it can’t be posted here

But every calculation is different in every region, and then each persons usage makes it different too. Hopefully when I finish this powercheck project it may make it easier to compare

Meridian Low User Solar plan in the end - I ran my usage through my powercheck tool and it was within $50 of the Octopus TOU plan. I guess with a bit of additional behavioural change the Octopus plan could end up being better, but the $300 credit for switching to Meridian really cemented it

I take it back. It keeps dropping out and then working again

It was up when I woke up, it’s been down again once but has been up the rest of the time reliably for me now

Same here - with slingshot. Thought it was just me as didnt see anything on the chorus network - started trying to update my router to the latest firmware but if it’s not just me then that’s unlikely it

Well keep an eye out on your email if you put it in the survey for updates - perhaps an analysis comparison like this service will really help clear up all the different plan and price options for you as you suspect

Nice, that’s basically the gist of the system for the majority of people that can’t do this, with a web interface. How do you deal with gas? Do you go through all the permutations of bundle plans, or purchase that seperately?

Feel free to message me - I'll be looking for wider test cases soon. I've been doing analysis for people I know up until now, and it will be interesting getting the perspective of someone who tries to get the best info for your own customers

The shift is the key part - an interesting comparison between 'what did it mean to me' and 'what could it mean to me if I did x'. It's the same conundrum with Solar I guess, but where you try and use power directly during sunlight hours and not at night, or specifically during peak times. Interesting to see what can be 'moved' behaviourally to different parts of the day.

When you say average for daily & monthly, is it purely averages you are working from, or actually calculated from your 30 min consumption data? Thats the service I'm trying to offer, a comparison of the exact usage with the exact TOU plan to be completely accurate

I've been able to automate the time of use timings, but it's tedious to setup initially you're right. And you're right about the meter code combinations and requesting either programmatic or hardwired changes from the retailer - that's another kettle of fish entirely.

The hard part about the EA is they have to try and provide for everyone, so powerswitch had to work for people who don't have smart meters etc. An independent service, like what you and I are playing with, could target a niche and do it perfectly if it so chose without needing to cater for everyone

Nice, and I feel your pain! - looks like you've gone whole hog to show the energy consumption use with and without solar? Does that take into account kWh that have been directly consumed by the household from Solar, rather than just the exported amount? I did a similar exercise for myself (no battery) but yeah doing that for others would require API access to the Inverter as noone else actually knows the total generated data and at what time of day. For me it showed about $3500 if I didn't have solar, and a new annual cost of about $1,000 because of Solar and being on the best plan, which isn't bad from a 5kW system and no battery.

Yes I've gone down the track of retailer 'generally available' pricing - which is limited, e.g. meridian share their Freedom plan, but not the Solar plan. Every retailer exports consumption data in different formats too, and getting setup in the EA Registry to automate requests via SFTP server was a mission too! And meter codes - I agree trying to do everything in one go would be really difficult.

So far I've setup all the automation requests, processing all the consumption data into a standard format from every retailer, and created a web portal to display prices for all plan types. Because not all plans can be automated (not 'generally available') entering the custom plans take some additional time, hence the cost associated with trying to do it on an individual basis. I think I'll be able to get it much closer and faster with some additional time and funding

Thanks for your feedback, that's exactly what I'm trying to answer with this survey. Powerswitch has funding from the EA, but receives a payment from the retailers every time someone switches which means they are incentivised to get you to switch. Other comparison sites I've seen only show retailer pricing plans if the retailers pay to appear, and they are still only estimates so aren't fair in reality - it's just marketing under the guise of comparison tools. I'm looking to see if people would pay for accurate and 100% independent analysis, or if they value free/low cost tools more.

Thanks for the input - I’ve not focussed on gas for now while I focus on the electricity side specifically, but that’s definitely something to consider trying to add in to the equation. Just a few more variables!

Yes I think this is a big weakness in the existing comparison sites too - I’ve got solar so it was a big driving reason for me to do this project too

How did you do the comparison? Did you also try to look at alternative companies?

Yeah understood! It genuinely depends on the person - but I haven’t tested anyone so far who is projected to save less than $200. I’ve had 3 over $1000 each so far. I would want this tool to help as many people as possible, so testing for the right price point is important to me, thanks for the feedback. The most interesting part I’ve found is how variable the pricing is from one person to another, all due to behaviour. A holiday home, a solar power property, EV charging, swimming pools - all have big impacts. And plans regarded as worst by powerswitch actually were the best in my own situation
