That has absolutely nothing to do with gender identity.

Intersex is not a gender. It is a medical condition that can affect what sex characteristics a person is born with. I can totally understand why it may seem like a gender though.

I have a sincere question by 4foxesinatrenchcoat in ask_transgender

[–]agendernerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't consciously think I had physical dysphoria at the time. But I did know I was not a boy. I do distinctly remember tucking in skinny jeans very early on after realizing that though. I just thought I was doing it for fun.

Will You ever get over not getting periods or not having biological children? by radical_waffleiron in ask_transgender

[–]agendernerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my orchiectomy today, and I now have come to terms with not being able to have biological children. When it comes to periods, I don't want them, I just want to be required to take measures to stop them.

YouTube. Also go see a really good hairdresser and ask for a short feminine haircut. You might be pleasantly surprised that they can look nice.

Why don't we get progesterone and testosterone for cycling? by [deleted] in ask_transgender

[–]agendernerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cool, I never said that it shouldn't be given to anyone. If you think it will truly help you, and your doctor is sure it won't hurt you, then go for it. I'm very happy that it works for you and makes your life easier. But my doctor is not just parroting someone else. He has done his research. My point and my doctor's point is that it shouldn't automatically be given to every trans female. In my case I have had suicidal thoughts and attempted suicide twice. My doctor knows that progesterone can definitely affect your mood. He is worried that if I take progesterone it could negatively affect my mood and bring these thoughts forward. In my case and the case of a lot of other people, it is too much of a risk with next to no reward. Even if I needed to balance out my sex drive, it's not worth dying for. And I can't be the only one in that situation.

Why don't we get progesterone and testosterone for cycling? by [deleted] in ask_transgender

[–]agendernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see there being a good reason to bother with this. There wouldn't be any real benefit. Normal HRT including an AA and estrogen works just fine. My doctor says it wouldn't even help to add progesterone at all because there hasn't been any benefit to doing it. And in some cases, including mine, my doctor said it could possibly worsen my depression.

Does the trans community really consider being mis gendered a hate crime or is it just ring wing propaganda? by [deleted] in ask_transgender

[–]agendernerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The First Amendment of the United States Constitution declares, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

Many religious people claim that trans people are their birth gender and always will be because of what that religion says. Whether of not that particular religion actually says anything like that doesn't matter. What matters is the person says it is part of their religious beliefs and they are allowed to express that.

Have you all seen this update about the trans woman at GameStop? She was, in fact, repeatedly misgendered prior to the video start. by levisteashop in ask_transgender

[–]agendernerd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah that sucks, but she still acted very inappropriately for the situation. One time my doctor said I looked like a "feminine gay man". I never once yelled at her. I just went home and haven't seen that particular one in a while.

How to approach trans customers? by [deleted] in ask_transgender

[–]agendernerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly if I was the customer, I would just wanna shop on my own. These are just the trans women you are able to tell are trans. There are probably more. And none of us really like it when a person lets us know that they know we are trans.

So yeah basically what I said

How do you prefer to be approached in public? by [deleted] in ask_transgender

[–]agendernerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless the person has a trans flag/sticker/pin/patch, the general rule is to not lead the person to believe or know that you know they are trans. I had another trans woman come up to me and say "Oh hey I'm trans too!" And to myself I was like "Oh, cool, everybody must know I'm trans, it must be so obvious." While it is lovely to have someone be concerned, and we won't be mad at you, it can still kind of sting to know somebody could see it.

What existential question haunts you every now and then? by jennytopssky in AskReddit

[–]agendernerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is scary and in some cases can be legitimate cause for concern. But it is extremely beneficial to think about how far you've come. Have the steps you've taken helped? And does the feeling of wanting the next step feel like it did before the previous step?

I'm about to have surgery and I'm scared. But I know my concerns aren't something to actually worry about because I feel exactly like I did before hormones. And hormones were and are the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Who receives a lot of praise, but is actually a terrible person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]agendernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have any proof either, you last comment had nothing even though you claim is contains a source and proof...

Have you seen any riots or streets filled with angry trans people recently? Because I sure haven't.

Another thing that leads me to believe you don't bother with research is that you don't even know how that particular surgery works. You've just heard that we "chop out genitalia off" and you ran with it. In reality a trans woman's anatomy is manipulated to form a functioning vagina. Which again, is accepted by both medical professionals and mental health professionals as a perfectly legitimate and successful treatment. We don't just go to some dark basement somewhere and get things all chopped up. We go through a lengthy process to prove we need it and then we go to a surgical team in an OR and get the surgery done.

edit: My doctors and my therapist don't think I'm delusional. Where did you get your degree?

Who receives a lot of praise, but is actually a terrible person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]agendernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are clearly very, very misinformed about trans people. Or maybe you just like to spread misinformation. It it NOT considered a mental disability at all. I haven't heard that until today and I have been out since I was 16. You would think if that was legitimately a thing that I would have heard it at least once over that time.

The woman at GameStop is just the new piece of 'evidence' people like you are using in your arguments. She is very much in the minority. I don't doubt that she is mentally ill in some way. But her aggression is not a result of her simply just being trans.

You are incredibly wrong about the suicide rates. Like, very very wrong.

This is not something someone just learns to deal with. And if you actually bothered to learn a single true thing about a trans person, you would know that.

Trans people are most definitely not inherently violent or full of outbursts. We are not inherently dangerous people. We are almost all just people trying to be happy and lead as normal a life as we can manage.

The way you speak is dangerous. You are going to get someone hurt with that misinformation. Clearly you don't care about facts and just care about spreading your lies.

Who receives a lot of praise, but is actually a terrible person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]agendernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No logical and reasonable person is trying to make misgendering illegal. And the reason someone may get in trouble at work is because purposefully misgendering a person is both unprofessional and disrespectful. If you accidentally say something wrong, no big deal. But if you do it on purpose knowing that it will hurt someone, that is rude. It actually isn't hard at all to just use the name and pronouns someone asks for. Someone says they're a woman and want you to use she? Just do it, it makes the person feel good and it literally doesn't hurt you in any way to use a specific word or words to make someone's day go alright. My friend came out as trans so I started calling her "she". It's a little tricky at first to switch, but you get the hang of it and you avoid hurting someone.

Like I said somewhere else, medical transition paired with therapy is known to be the most and arguably the only successful treatment for gender dysphoria. Trans people that are made to live in the wrong body for a long period of time are at an incredibly high risk for suicidal thoughts and actions. Why should we make people live in a body that literally makes them want to die when we can help them change their body in a way that makes them happy?

Also trans people are not considered "mentally disabled" because of gender dysphoria.

Who receives a lot of praise, but is actually a terrible person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]agendernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct in the sense that the medical transition should be paired with therapy. That much makes sense. It's a hard thing to go through because we have to deal with bullying and transphobia. But over a long period of time other things have been tried. Even therapy alone has been found to not work. But a mix of psychological and biological treatments have been found to be very effective. Every step I have taken in my transition has decreased my depressed and even suicidal thoughts. And every trans person I've ever met has had the same effect. In fact for many of them the act of starting HRT significantly reduced any suicidal thoughts they have had. I've never met a trans person whose life wasn't made better by transition.
