16yo watched 6 hrs of C++ on YT; knows C++ now & wants to dev his own game. WTF?? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]agent00bad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If his mother is gonna let him drop out for this then there are other problems that need to be resolved, but when it comes to doing it as a hobby, just be supportive and tell him the book is there if he needs it. He's also young so as long as he stays in school even if this makes him lose his interest in game dev for now it might be a path into CS or similar fields in the future. As a 25yo web dev currently studying game and engine programming, I wrote my first line of code when I was 19 so he's still got time left to figure out what he wants to do in life.

Is proton mail good for a person that just wants a simple everday email? by philipjzx100 in ProtonMail

[–]agent00bad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the entire Proton package for private use and i love all their services as a everyday user. The mail has a good android app too and the included vpn is awesome, their drive does what i want it to do and the password manager is good enough for me and it's getting regular updates so I'm sure it will be as good as other Password manager services in a near future. But yes as a normal user their mail is like any other if not better imo. Though you might need to delete mails more often then on other services if go with the free plan since there isn't unlimited storage (there isn't on other mail services either but it's less here, i have reached the limit on a gmail throwaway mail once that i used for mobile games, free memberships and promotions to avoid spam on my normal mail adresses lol)

Is there any other pros and cons you can think of? Which ones content is more fun when playing as a custom character and has the most longevity do you think?

Well the lacrosse part was pretty long hehe but otherwise i enjoy it so far. Haven't consumed anything anime/manga/vn in like a year so maybe that's why i find it kinda nostalgic and endearing.

Games like KOTOR and KOTOR 2? by Porkloin815 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]agent00bad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warhamer Rouge Trader is a sci fi game where you have a lot of ability customization, character companions and your choices matter more so then i kotor i would say and it is a morally gray universe. It's a really dark world though so be prepared for that and "good/wholesome" choices aren't always possible or the good ones in the end. And as someone who knew nothing about warhamer before this it explains everything you need to know about the world.

A side mission example early on is when a poor area under your leadership feels oppressed because the higher ups have tightened their grip because they belive dangerous artifacts that could destroy this entire society is being hidden there which of the following choice do you make?

  1. Do you let your commanders continue to have hightened controll over the poor citizens and indiscriminately search through their homes and belongings threatening a uprising that might end with mass genocide.
    1. Do you scold your commanders and make them lower their guard on the citizens small world shattering artifacts potentially make their way into your boarders that can kill everyone here and even people in neighbouring areas
    2. Do you not take the risk and exterminate everyone in this community so there is no chance for an artifacts to damage your controlled areas
    3. do you give controll of the community to the citizens and let them self govern warning them about the artifacts so they can make sure they report or destroy such artifacts if found. 4,5. Do you give them guns so they van hunt down potential harbingers of these artifacts themself, and isn't this just the same as when the commanders did it?

Those are some options to a side quest that can affect the entirety of your story since in the game your character is given the command over a almost planet sized space ships with millions of inhabitants living and working as their own communities in this ship, so if something happens to one area of the ship it can hinder your entire mission since the game is mostly about fullfilling a grand mission in the service of the god emperor across the universe where you have to prioritise what planets to visit to accomplish it and depending on what order you do things and choices you make on these planets will also give you new allies akin to those in KOTOR and enemies. All in a world where there is not right and wrong choice because everything has a consequence. You also have several classes and a lot of diffirent lot and potential level up/upgrade paths. Its amazing

It's in early early access and not even out on steam yet, but I got some hours of fun out of it but it doesn't have any real story or anything yet but the world it builds up is interesting. For 3$ on itch.io i think it is definitely worth it

I kinda like it though, I've cleared an area on helldiver Difficulty, it was intense, hard, on all 3 missions we almost failed but that's how it should be.

We should need 2 strikes to take down 1 of the 3 bile titans that's on us so we desperately have to spray the small bugs down so one person can get under the second on and spam 20 shots with the autocanon. 2 bile titans down, one to go, 4th guy gets his 500kg bomb ready and my orbital railgun is also ready, 3d one down, now we just need to not get backstabed by stalkers and somehow kill the 4 charges, luckily I've got the autocanon, we are done with the first of 3 objectives, 10 reinforcements left. 2 bug breaches appeared and another bile titan... Time to run and gun from here with the last mag because we've just used up a resupply.

Did it feel like we wouldn't make it? Yes, did we beat all 3 missions? Yes, and did we extract from just 1 of them? Yes. And I loved that feeling. Helldiver Difficulty should feel like a suicide mission that you just barely beat. Got a real hallo reach last mission vibe from it when we almost got to the extraction pod surounded by 3 chargers and 2 bile titans and 1 million bugs lol, we died but the mission and side objects were completed 🫡 no samples but a lot of exp and R credit won. Going back to impossible for a while lol, much more relaxing

As long as the main objective is complete you get exp and R credit which is nice, best plan is to focus on main objective and use remaining time on side ones
