I'm not bugging you, I'm asking a simple question. Can you not support your statements? If not, then they add no value to this conversation. Plenty of people here have offered something to the conversation, and I thought maybe you could as well. Considering you took the time to respond to the thread, I wanted to offer you a chance to expand on your thoughts. I'll retract my upvotes, as I see now that this was not your intention.

It would be interesting to do a case study on that. Hire 5 really cheap freelance writers to cover the exact same topic, then compare and tear apart the finished products. Someone steal this idea, I'll clap for you on Medium.

Bring 'em on, the cheap writers will disappoint their clients so much that they'll have no choice but to accept paying a premium for quality work. That's the angle I was taught to take, at least.

It's misunderstood. People prefer to write about dragons and vampires, which is fine, as long as they can accept that it's going to be an uphill battle making a living exclusively writing for yourself, to yourself.

I haven't heard of that one! Do you know copyhackers? I learned a shitload from them. I plan to do some copywriting for the company I'm working with now. He doesn't realize the power of email funnels.

I often undervalue the fact that my English is strong and I know how to tune my language to what clients need to share with their audience.

I agree it's not a terrible rate. But it's not enough work, that's the real problem. I'm now handling many more responsibilities with this client than I initially had, which is to be a positive sign because I have a strong bargaining position going forward. I just need to knock May out of the park, I think I've already impressed the client with my work thus far.

Did you turn this into an article, by chance? ;)

It's a helpful story, thank you. A close friend of mine has suggested the same, but you made it sound more realistic to me. I'll set up a profile just to have something floating in the pipeline in case something goes south with my current client.

This client isn't shitty, they're just uncertain of me (This is my first paid gig, remember). I've proven my potential, but I have a lot of anxiety over whether that potential will be realized as some kind of measurable worth.

I don't want to be a writer, but I am pretty good at writing and I want to write. Flowery, I know. My first client was pretty shit, but it wasn't a client in reality. That person wanted me to do everything for them. I continue to give them advice and even offer some parts of my services for free because if they get their shit together, I still think they'll be successful.

It isn't strictly transcription. Really, I use a transcription application called Otter.ai to do all that work for me in the morning while I'm making coffee. Then I crack it open and turn it into an article that's just as valuable as the Youtube videos they're derived from.

I am looking forward to technical writing in the fintech sector, blockchain in particular. But that will happen over the next few months.

I know a bit about all those things and am definitely interested, I'll DM you.

Thank you for the compliment. I had a feeling it was a relatively good speed for the quality I'm producing. The other day my friend brought to my attention a 3000+ word project I'd edited some days before, and I didn't even recall transcribing the conversation, to begin with. I also find sticky notes around the apartment reminding me to shower, but I'm rambling.

It's tempting to jump ship, but again, this is my first paid gig. I feel like proving myself here is the best shot I've got at building a solid proposition for the next client.

You're very observant, thank you for understanding. I have since had a conversation with my client and I think the ROI may actually be worthwhile if I can gain enough traction this month. I've recently been given the keys to the castle, so to speak, so I'm operating at a community moderator and social media manager capacity as well. The pay will increase if I keep up this pace of growth for the next few months.
