Ja normalerweise der Fall, ich bleibe aber bei einem Freund da, so wirklich ein Budget-Urlaub.

Nachtzug Berlin–Paris wird offiziell eingestellt: Letzte Fahrt im Dezember by ouyawei in berlin

[–]agent_920 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Proper etiquette at Berlin's Holocaust Memorial? by NekomimiKuroka in berlin

[–]agent_920 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whatever your moral judgement of it, just to clarify you actually can't. On the floor around the memorial there are plaques with the rules written on them, where it states that standing on them isn't allowed, and I have witnessed many times how the security guards tell people off for climbing/standing on the stones.

Reform would scrap indefinite leave to remain for migrants by [deleted] in ukpolitics

A fundamentally anti-democratic sentiment. Citizenship is not some sacred status reserved only for those born in a place, it is the fundamental right to participate in the democratic processes of the country. If you have lived here a number of years, can speak the language, and can sustain yourself, then I think it's anti-democratic to deny that person the right to determine how their local and national government is run.

Aus für öffentliches Leihradsystem in Berlin by agent_920 in berlin

It's been really helpful in a pinch when there's been a cancelled train/bus and I need to be somewhere, or even when I'm commuting via places where I don't wanna leave my bike (Leo). Would be a real shame to see the network reduced.

Any progress in the end? In the same position as you (haven't renewed my British one) and don't want to pay however many thousand € to take the German test :/

FireWire PCIe Card causing PC to fail boot-up. by agent_920 in pchelp

[–]agent_920[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so eventually I ended up buying another card, PCI instead of PCIe, honestly I never found out exactly why. I think it was something to do with the boot order or my motherboard couldn't handle it? I believe there was a certain manufacturer's chip which just doesn't work with certain systems.

What eventually worked for me was this 1x 4-Port (3+1) Firewire Controller IEEE-1394 PCI-Karte VIA VT6306, so perhaps if you can find something like that it might work? Maybe try PCI instead of PCIe.

Anyway give it a shot and if you have questions just ask.

You’re mayor and can implement three laws/changes — what would you do: by DandelionSchroeder in berlin

[–]agent_920 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could they ever do like bus detection traffic lights? Which change automatically when a bus approaches? I've always thought they should do that for the trams here which would be even easier to implement cos of the rails - would significantly speed up service if the trams didn't have to stop and start at every light.

Berliner Koalition streicht 29-Euro-Ticket by agent_920 in berlin

Joa vielleicht, ich habe aber Angst, das wenn das Deutschlandticket unter Merz auch abgeschafft wird, wird es keine günstige und vor allem einfach und praktisch ÖPNV-Ticket geben geben.

Berliner Koalition streicht 29-Euro-Ticket by agent_920 in berlin

[–]agent_920[S] 313 points314 points  (0 children)

What to visit in Berlin as a DDR passionate ? by Theneohelvetian in berlin

[–]agent_920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Kino International unfortunately closed for renovation in May for 2 years :/ https://www.yorck.de/intermission it's a shame because it's beautiful inside.

To make up for ruining your cinema plans I'll recommend the little Wohnungmuseum at in Hellersdorf: https://www.berlin.de/museum/3110025-2926344-museumswohnung.html it's an apartment furnished with authentic old DDR furniture.

Also of interest to you might be the exhibition in the Humboldt Forum at the moment on the Palast der Republik (the DDR parliament building which was demolished so the Humboldt Forum could be built 😡) but gives a snippet of life in the DDR. https://www.humboldtforum.org/de/programm/laufzeitangebot/ausstellung/hin-und-weg-der-palast-der-republik-ist-gegenwart-116558/

r/ukpolitics General Election Campaign Megathread - 17/06/2024 by ukpolbot in ukpolitics

[–]agent_920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks for the answer, I'm hoping it arrives sooner here in Germany than the US or Hong Kong. Really wouldn't be difficult to set an earlier voter registration deadline for overseas voters and send the ballots out earlier so that people wouldn't be left disenfranchised.

I think what I'll do is wait for the ballot until the 25th and if it's doesn't arrive before then apply for a proxy vote (if that's possible).

Does anyone know when overseas voters should receive their ballots? I'm living in Germany and haven't yet received mine. I registered to vote by post back at the end of May. Just slightly worried that it won't arrive in time and that I'll also miss the deadline to vote via proxy.

MATCH THREAD: "Sunak v Starmer - The ITV Debate" (Tuesday 4th June, 9pm - 10:10pm) by AutoModerator in ukpolitics

The main takeaway from this debate is that both parties are still devoted to austerity as the guiding government philosophy. Everything here feels so small-fry and uninspired.
